If by some miracle she hasn't been getting high on weed and pills recently, she is obviously an indigent patient. So, they will ask her if she has diapers, clothes, a stable living situation, formula, a crib, all of that. Sammy has made zero preparations for this kid, and while her mom gave them a carseat - they have no car, either. She and her boyfriend are pretty clearly developmentally disabled, and CPS will be called before they leave.

Drugs and/or alcohol? Depending on the substance they might take Skylandia. Weed, booze in the absence of FAS? Unlikely. Meth or opioids? Yes. No stuff for the baby? They just get a referral and some free stuff plus a visit from a SW. The social services system in AR is absolutely swamped from actual godawful parents — worse than Sammie, worse than Kim. They are short foster families, resources, caseworker, funding.

I’m not disagreeing with you to be contrary and I wish to god this was the case. In AR, they only give a sweet shit about you as long as you’re Unborn. After that, fuck off, you’re on your own.

I spent numerous years working in law enforcement in Central AR. The amount of shit I saw regarding child abuse and neglect fucking drives me and eats at me at 0300 when I can’t sleep. Even with arrests, hotline reports, etc, there is still a tremendous group that fall through the cracks. Sammie’s situation is “Leave it to Beaver” compared to some of the absolute abuse and neglect nightmares I’ve witnessed.

There are only a few cows I’d be thrilled to see fucking die (all abusive and neglectful parents) but Kim is by far in the number one position. She is completely irredeemable and doesn’t even have basic human shame over Aidean always being filthy and malnourished.
