Whoever told you that severely mangled the story. The core characters were created by a Japanese tv network for a summer promotion. They commissioned Nintendo to make a game around it. Nintendo did so, fully intent on later inserting another IP into it. They did that for the foreign release and then went back and did a re-release in Japam as SMB USA edition as soon as the non-compete lapsed.

Daisy isn't a girlboss that would ruin people's lives, she's just obnoxiously loud in the same way an excited child is and that's part of her charm. The thing in the movie is neither Peach nor Daisy, it's hollywood forming an abscess in Nintendo.
