A man is in critical condition after setting himself on fire midday Sunday outside the Israeli Embassy in D.C., authorities said.

No one else was injured in the incident, which took place just before 1 p.m. in the 3500 block of International Drive NW. A video shared online, which multiple officials said appeared to be posted by the man, shows him shouting “Free Palestine” as he burned.

The man said he was an active-duty member of the U.S. Air Force. A spokeswoman for the Air Force, Ann Stefanek, said they had not yet identified the man or verified whether he is in the service.

Since the Israel-Gaza war began just over four months ago, at least 29,629 people have been killed in the Gaza Strip, according to the Gaza Health Ministry. Israel estimates that about 1,200 people were killed in Hamas’s Oct. 7 attack and says 240 soldiers have been killed since the start of its military operation in Gaza.

Hamas and allied fighters took more than 253 people hostage during the attack. More than 100 were freed in exchange for more than 200 Palestinian detainees during a November pause in fighting. Israeli authorities believe that more than 100 hostages remain in Gaza.

On Sunday, uniformed Secret Service officers responded to a report of a person experiencing a possible medical or mental health emergency, said Joe Routh, a U.S. Secret Service spokesman.

Responding officers put out the fire before D.C. firefighters arrived, around 1 p.m., fire department spokesman Vito Maggiolo said. The D.C. Fire and Emergency Services department then took the man to a hospital in life-threatening condition. He remained hospitalized Sunday afternoon.

In the video, which is just over three minutes long, one person can be heard saying, “Hi, sir, can I help you?” as the man approaches the gate to the embassy.

About 12 seconds later, as a person again asks, “Can I help you, sir,” the man lights the fire.

The man burned for about a minute and collapsed on the ground, the video showed, before law enforcement began to extinguish the fire.

"in the line of duty" doesn't matter. it's never mattered. all that matters is "active duty" or not. I did military medical. when a marine drunkenly punches out a liquor store window he get medical care and it's covered, because he's active duty. doesn't matter if you get in a car accident while on leave, if you accidently stab yourself playing with a knife, or if you shoot yourself in the leg while fucking around with your personal firearm on leave(all things that happened while I was in), it doesn't matter what he was doing when he got hurt. he's not a veteran applying for a disability claim, he was an active duty service member so it gets covered
Can confirm as both a former medic and someone who sliced his foot on some glass in a beach while on leave. It was pretty deep to the point I tourniquetted my own leg. Ambo came and took me to the hospital. Billing came in and I flashed my military ID and never heard another word about the bill.

You can be 'chaptered out' for bad behavior. You can be subject to a RIF - Reduction in force. You can be separated for too many years in enlisted grade without a promotion. You can be separated as an officer if passed over twice for the next rank if you don't have enough time in service to retire, or are not in the 'safe zone'. You can be dismissed from the service (officers only) or be kicked out due to Uniform Code of Military Justice actions. Retired USAF signals intelligence here, enlisted and later officer, mid 70's to late 90's. Two tours in Korea, was there for the 'tree incident', later commanded troops in Korea.

If you serve/have served, you are a service member/veteran. Respect everyone's service; we're all on the same team.
No other branch consider Airmen veterans, they're all laughing at you, cope. you've sperged out entirely too hard on the "can't get fired" comment. Maybe the airforce is just eager to drop anyone who breaks the slightest rule, or maybe it was different back in the 70's but today, in the real military, there's a whole world of fuck fuck games they will play before letting you walk from your contract. Even guys who pop on the piss test get deployed before they get kicked out. Yes, you CAN get discharged but my point is that it's very hard to the point that most will finish their enlistment and get out normally. getting retired because you didn't advance isn't the same thing as being fired, retiring is not the same thing as getting fired.

Easy there- he probably thought it was a necromancer's raised skeleton.
Granted, skeletons are usually the lowest on a necromancy skill tree but I wouldn't risk it myself.
You say that, but as you know the US armed forces are currently controlled by high level Jew sorcerers.

This man was a fool. He will just be raised as a skeleton warrior with a +3 greatsword and resistance to virtually every negative status.

Imagine raising a son just for him to turn into a self-hating beta male pussy who burns himself alive for Reddit and Twitter upvotes.

A fate worse than death.

Unless they have other family members crippled with White guilt, this Thanksgiving should be a peaceful but somber one.

I'll take the dark meat.

This guy picked a really bad time culturally to do this. If he did something like this when Bush was bombing for oil, he'd be an icon. Now he's just a joke.
Yeah someone did this already. And guess what? No one gave a shit after the media cycle passed and now no one remembers him except as the equivalent of bar trivia.

I stand corrected then. But that was in 2006, when most people had turned against the war and were starting move on from it. Bushnell did this while Gaza is still getting invaded and people are outright mocking him than ignoring him.

Raised by what seems to be a nice family, go on to join the military and go all in on left-leaning politics, decide it's a good idea to immolate yourself for a war taking place thousands of miles away and effectively end your life at 25.

Get rejected as a martyr in death for being the wrong skin color and even if he is seen as one, it's to be a propaganda prop (expected but still kind of sad).

He was obviously an idiot but it's all a bit tragic.

Going through his reddit account and this shit is hilarious, he got upset because he wasn't coddled and actually had to salute his superior officers instead of the officers recognizing their common humanity. He describes this as a humiliation ritual.

Not American but ex military. If there's gonna be a colonel sniffing around the base then you're gonna be well informed of it and to be on your best behaviour.
If your walking past someone of that rank while your carrying something you stop and stand to attention, if it's something you can carry one handed, stick it by your side and salute. If it's something your carrying with both hands then at least stand to attention, say "sir!" and acknowledge them. They'll see your clearly busy and there won't be any issues, they obviously have more pressing issues.
The fact the colonel had to stop him says a lot. You don't just fob someone off of that rank. I bet the NCOs absolutely busted his balls for that with a vengeance.
It is air force though so don't know how it works. Our own air force is a joke, literally wants to recruit low IQ niggers and niggers and pakis over the native population.

Frankly after skimming his reddit posts and getting an idea of how his brain worked, I think this is less tragedy and more of a blessing that he didn't decide to shoot up a school or a bowling alley or a fast food restaurant on his way to whatever afterlife awaits anarchist spergs.
