The Israeli Embassy in D.C., in 2016.

A man is in critical condition after setting himself on fire midday Sunday outside the Israeli Embassy in D.C., authorities said.

No one else was injured in the incident, which took place just before 1 p.m. in the 3500 block of International Drive NW. A video shared online, which multiple officials said appeared to be posted by the man, shows him shouting “Free Palestine” as he burned.

The man said he was an active-duty member of the U.S. Air Force. A spokeswoman for the Air Force, Ann Stefanek, said they had not yet identified the man or verified whether he is in the service.

Since the Israel-Gaza war began just over four months ago, at least 29,629 people have been killed in the Gaza Strip, according to the Gaza Health Ministry. Israel estimates that about 1,200 people were killed in Hamas’s Oct. 7 attack and says 240 soldiers have been killed since the start of its military operation in Gaza.

Hamas and allied fighters took more than 253 people hostage during the attack. More than 100 were freed in exchange for more than 200 Palestinian detainees during a November pause in fighting. Israeli authorities believe that more than 100 hostages remain in Gaza.

On Sunday, uniformed Secret Service officers responded to a report of a person experiencing a possible medical or mental health emergency, said Joe Routh, a U.S. Secret Service spokesman.

Responding officers put out the fire before D.C. firefighters arrived, around 1 p.m., fire department spokesman Vito Maggiolo said. The D.C. Fire and Emergency Services department then took the man to a hospital in life-threatening condition. He remained hospitalized Sunday afternoon.

In the video, which is just over three minutes long, one person can be heard saying, “Hi, sir, can I help you?” as the man approaches the gate to the embassy.

About 12 seconds later, as a person again asks, “Can I help you, sir,” the man lights the fire.

The man burned for about a minute and collapsed on the ground, the video showed, before law enforcement began to extinguish the fire.

Something to keep in mind there will be no articles written on how this young autistic man was completely and utterly radicalized by online leftists. There will be no Rolling Stone "HOW THE ONLINE LEFT PUSHED A MAN TO SELF IMMOLATE" or anything of the sort. The media is entirely fixated on right-wing radicalization because the other way doesn't fix the narrative. We have dozens if not hundreds of examples of young men being pushed to acts of violence like this and no one but maybe Breitbart and the Postmillennial will touch it. Fuck this gay earth.
I think it was violent video games

That makes me feel sad. I guess the other person in the 2nd photo and a lot of the others is his brother. I wonder how he's feeling just now. He looks like he had a good life, loving friends, family but threw it all away over subhumans on both sides who hate him. Is it severe mental illness? Why do Americans do this? This severe self flagellation? It genuinely hurts to watch.
Such is the power of a thoroughly Neomarxist-compromised education & media system, as well as the massive push of left-wing identity politics post-Occupy Wall Street and the rapidly accelerating Tumblrization of the Internet coinciding with Gamergate & the 2016 election. In most regards I'd argue Aaron Bushnell was the perfect intended product of the above: a completely (buck-)broken, demoralized and spiritually poisoned shell of a human being, who so relentlessly hates himself for being born white & male that he thinks nothing of burning himself to death for people who despise him, and who can then be promptly scorned by said precious BIPOCs he was indoctrinated to think of as gods far above his innately reprobate white self, all to be forgotten within the week.

Yes, this dude was clearly batshit insane and got his brain further melted by reading what the weirdos on Reddit say. He was probably going to kill himself over something though, this just gave him an extra push.
couldn't he just have had an fellow airman say stop being a fag bro? Surely there's some good ones.
Wouldn't all his friends in his photos not have said don't do it bro?
If it was one of my brothers I'd be gripping him by the throat telling him the damage it would do to my dad. I guess he never gave any signs though......
Keep in touch with your brothers kiwibros and look out for them, messaged mine
I felt sorry for him then seen his retard reddit posts but then I seen his family photos, I honestly feel bummed out.

I really don't get self-harm as a form of protest. It was shocking when we didn't have access to those kinds of videos in a couple of key strokes. Now, it's just passè.
I feel like it comes from a weird sense of self-importance. People that deeply into any ideology seem to think that they will be the Christ-like figure that becomes a Martyr for the cause they believe in. They see themselves and their pet issue as being very important to everyone around them instead of the harsh reality. Not many people in life care about you deeply and very few people care about your personal politics. Even the people who agree with you don't really care, they're more or less using you to virtue signal and/or reinforce their own ideology.

Tl;dr : Everyone thinks they'll be the next Jesus instead of a quickly forgotten headline.

The dude was a huge fag - he uses "them" instead of "him" or "her", but he's right about the pettiness of an officer making an enlisted man put down whatever he's carrying just to force a salute (if that is indeed what happened). That's some Frank Burns shit, right there.
Sure is. Rest assured I never did anything like that, being a former enlisted man myself. Also thought REAL hard before giving any orders or directions that could be considered stupid, having carried out my share of stupid orders.

I know it’s fun to meme but they’re trained to deal with people who explode themselves and not just burn themselves. If burn boy had ran at someone or looked like he was about to activate something if would have been two in the chest and one in the head.
I get it, but Officer Fiddlesticks showed up with his piece way after the Soylent Torch passed out from lack of oxygen and shock. It's around the same time a guy with an extinguisher arrives on scene. He's pointing his gun at a krispy critter.

I would imagine the guy was just content that you were doing as instructed. Had you just kept walking forward (or he was in a bad mood) he could have asked for your salute.

Not like my civilian ass knows anything but I'm guessing the whole saluting thing is done as assurance that you are disciplined. The whole rigmarole of memorizing your handbook and having everything in your outfit correct I think is there to see who is paying attention and who is a fuck up.
The salute has a history, least what I was told. In the time of knights and armor two knights meeting each other would lift their visors as to be recognized. Over time, this turned into the hand salute, where the person of lesser rank salutes the person of higher rank. Officers salute officers who outrank them. And the person saluted must returns the salute, a gesture of mutual respect. Whenever I gave or returned a salute always rendered a sharp salute, Even now, many years retired, when saluted going through a gate of a base, I return a sharp salute.

The saddest salute I ever rendered was as a brand-new second lieutenant freshly commissioned from ROTC. A bunch of us attended the funeral of another ROTC cadet in our detachment, came in uniform. We lined up by the grave and saluted as the casket was lowered into the ground.

There are times when someone may not see your insignia and not salute, say, if outside and light is low. I'd just say, "Good morning, (rank)". They usually got the message and saluted. If not, i just went on my way.

We also salute indoors, at certain times. You salute when reporting to a superior officer. One exception - in the Navy you don't salute inside when reporting to a superior officer unless you are wearing your hat. Learned that from a Navy captain, our office chief at the alphabet agency.

One interesting thing - recipients of the Medal of Honor are always saluted first, no matter what their rank. If a sergeant is a recipient of that decoration even a four-star general salutes first. We salute the accomplishment and the medal, not the person.

There's an old saying, "We salute the rank, not the person." Have saluted people I despised, and have been saluted by people who hated me. Just the way it goes. A great example of this is in Band of Brothers, where Captain Sobel tries to avoid saluting now-Major Winters. Winters sets Sobel straight, one of the best scenes in the series.

Tutsi vs Hutu in several African nations
Not even black people care about that one despite how brutal the genocide was.
Israel/Palestine quite literally lives rent-free in a lot of American heads
The only reason I give an iota about this conflict its because I'm tired of my tax money going to israel.

End that and I will literally not give a shit about this, except maybe when our greatest ally bombs an ancient church like they often do but no christians seem to give a fuck about it.
I feel like it comes from a weird sense of self-importance
These people have terminal main character syndrome, they believe the world is a game/movie and it ends when they die. It reminds me of this old magazine cartoon I saw where a guy is about to blow his brains out with a gun while imagining his funeral being attended by thousands of people carrying his casket thru the streets. Its the same mentality, this psychotic idiot likely thought the whole world was going to stop due to this, that the war would magically end because one dumb american doused himself with gasoline.
Seeing more and more people discover his posts on Reddit and other places, and seeing what a fucking unsafe grenade he was.
Post them.

Self-immolation as a form of protest against countries like Israel and China is pointless at best, and disadvantageous at worst. Dictatorial countries such as Israel and China ultimately do not care about their opposition burning themselves alive for them, in fact, it benefits them because it makes their opposition look insane.
It was different in southern Vietnam because Diem's government ultimately could not contort the self-immolation of Quảng Đức and other Buddhist priests into propaganda because Diem was very unpopular both in southern Vietnam and on the world stage while Israel and China still hold massive support.
Aaron Bushnell's death was damaging for the Palestinian cause, he just gave israel and their supporters a big, beautiful piece of propaganda that they can spread everywhere.
He was not even remotely on popular he was only on popular with Buddhist extremists who demanded that the country has to be Buddhist and that the Buddhist allowed to carry weapons and have the paramilitary organization and undermine the Vietnamese war effort against the Communist dim was the most effective anti-communist of Vietnam he was also the dually elected prime minister.
Hoochie man literally said the CIA was extremely stupid for assassinating him and was actually laughing his ass off that they assassinated the most effective leader of Vietnam.
Thanks communist in the New York Times

If I did this right, this post should have the archive of his reddit history.
Wow. Looking through his post history he posted in literally dozens of leftist subreddits. Just from what I'm seeing in the first page of his post history he was active in: /r/TOTALANARCHY, /r/socialistcredit, /r/ACAB, /r/SocialistRA, /r/dankleft, /r/Anarachy4everyone, /r/Israelcrimes, /r/classconsciencememes, /r/breadtube to say this guy was radicalized by reddit would be a massive understatement. He was neck deep in this propaganda.
