It's nowhere near October, but one ensemble is already on track to be named the most controversial Halloween costume of 2015.

Social media users were out in full force on Monday criticizing several Halloween retailers for offering a Caitlyn Jenner costume reminiscent of the former-athlete's Vanity Fair cover earlier this year.

While Jenner's supporters condemned the costume as "transphobic" and "disgusting" on Twitter, Spirit Halloween, a retailer that carries the costume, defended the getup.

"At Spirit Halloween, we create a wide range of costumes that are often based upon celebrities, public figures, heroes and superheroes," said Lisa Barr, senior director of marking at Spirit Halloween. "We feel that Caitlyn Jenner is all of the above and that she should be celebrated. The Caitlyn Jenner costume reflects just that."

Albuquerque City Council approves program to clean up human feces​

Albuquerque residents will soon be able to call the city to clean up human feces left behind by people living on the streets. Albuquerque City Councilors signed off on funding a program to safely dispose of human waste by contracting with a company specializing in biohazard disposal.

Councilor Tammy Fiebelkorn, who co-sponsored the proposal, called it a short-term solution saying what the city really needs is more public restrooms. “We live in a city where there are approximately 4000 people who are unhoused. We also live in a city where there is one 24-7 year-round available restroom,” said Councilor Fiebelkorn.

Last year, the city received 400 requests to clean up human feces. Until now, the city’s policy said property owners were responsible for that cleanup.

Rabbi Shmuley Boteach, chairman of the family-owned company Kosher Sex, has just announced the release of his company's latest product: a lubricant that is not only kosher but also made in Israel.

The company Kosher Sex has created products with the aim of encouraging individuals to explore their sexuality in a kosher way.

Boteach took to Instagram to show off the new lubricant product. He wrote, "We are making marriages hot and intimate, passionate and monogamous. Kosher Sex IS the future of ALL human relationships."

Boteach then explained that the lubricant would be donated to married Israeli soldiers by his daughter and CEO of the company, Chana Boteach.

Sex in the spirit of Judasim

The company website sells a variety of products that encourage sexual intimacy in the spirit of Judaism.

The Kosher Sex website explains that "in Judaism, sex is the holiest, most connecting force that human beings can experience. Jewish sages permit practically any sexual practice between a couple if it benefits their union and bonds them closer together."

The origins of the company began with Chana Boteach's launch of Kosher.Sex, an internet company based on Rabbi Boteach's teachings.

Boteach, also known as “America’s Rabbi,” is widely known. He is the author of 36 books, many on the topic of sex in relation to Judaism. His book Kosher Sex, which shocked the world, has become a bestseller.

He has also appeared on a variety of American shows, including Oprah and The Today Show.

In addition to the kosher lubricant, products sold on the site range all the way from erotic gels and serums to dildos and vibrators.

Why Google's 'woke' AI problem won't be an easy fix​

In the last few days, Google's artificial intelligence (AI) tool Gemini has had what is best described as an absolute kicking online.
Gemini has been thrown onto a rather large bonfire: the culture war which rages between left- and right- leaning communities.
Gemini is essentially Google's version of the viral chatbot ChatGPT. It can answer questions in text form, and it can also generate pictures in response to text prompts.
Initially, a viral post showed this recently launched AI image generator create an image of the US Founding Fathers which inaccurately included a black man.
Gemini also generated German soldiers from World War Two, incorrectly featuring a black man and Asian woman.
Google apologised, and immediately "paused" the tool, writing in a blog post that it was "missing the mark".

Hand wrings about the problem of eliminating bias in AI models, doesn't state the obvious that the bias is completely deliberate and the only reason the tool has been paused is that the bias is so outrageous that it has become a laughing stock instead of a useful propaganda tool as desired.

It sounds like a tale from the Old West, but it happened in modern day Wyoming: A retired U.S. Forest Service officer has been sentenced for rustling government horses and mules — and, allegedly, lots of ammo, too — in an old-fashioned switcheroo.


Court records show Ronald Ostrom, 54, of Powell, Wyoming, was convicted in November by a federal jury after evidence showed he switched out two horses in 2021 that belonged to the U.S. Forest Service — Reo and Roany — with a couple of his own that he had purchased a few years earlier. He was meant to return them, but never did, prosecutors said. ...

Even when it comes back, the only users using it will be ones trying to see how it's biased and sharing their discoveries.

Weightlifter ate 39 coins, 37 magnets because he thought ‘zinc helps in bodybuilding’: report (Archive)​

Doctors at a New Delhi hospital removed 39 coins and 37 magnets from a man’s intestine after he swallowed the metals under the assumption that ”zinc helps in bodybuilding.”

X-rays taken before the surgery inside Sir Ganga Ram Hospital show massive metal clots forming in the 26-year-old’s intestines after he spent several weeks ingesting the coins while undergoing treatment for an undisclosed psychiatric condition, the ANI news wire reports.

The patient, who was not publicly named, believed he could absorb zinc from the 39 coins he ate — and thought eating the magnets would aid in that process.

Doctors learned the extent of what he had done when he arrived at the emergency room with complaints of vomiting and abdominal pain that had gone on for more than 20 days.

The coins and magnets had caused intestinal obstruction in his body, prompting an immediate surgical procedure to remove the metals.

The surgeons noted that the magnets and coins had lumped together into two separate loops in the small intestine, with the magnetic force leading them to lock and cause an erosion along the intestinal wall.

Fortunately, the doctors were able to open the intestines and remove all the coins and magnets. A large amount of the metals were also found in his stomach and promptly removed.

Officials noted that some of the magnets recovered from the man’s body were shaped like a heart, sphere, bullet, triangle and star.

A post-surgery X-ray confirmed that all the metals were successfully removed from the 26-year-old’s stomach and intestines.

The patient spent seven days in the hospital recovering from the procedure before he was discharged.

While the man allegedly believed the coins would give him a boost in zinc, consuming such a large amount of the metal can result in zinc toxicity, according to Poison Control.


When zinc-containing coins are ingested, the acidic fluids in the stomach can cause “zinc to leach from the coins,” which could lead to stomach pains, diarrhea and vomiting.

In severe cases, zinc toxicity can even result in death.

Fur Trapping to Save the Planet!​

A recent study of beaver dams in northwestern Alaska concludes that the explosive repopulation of Arctic terrain by beavers is thawing large areas of tundra and releasing climate-destroying methane.
The purported negative climate impact of northern beavers regarding methane is the polar opposite of the vaunted benefits of southern beaver populations which climate scientists have for years claimed sequester vital carbon and rescue humanity from climate change. The dichotomy between the two beaver populations is paralleled by the tensions between animal rights activists’ views of fur trapping.
Is it O.K. to trap animals to save the planet?
The beaver problem in Canada and other northern climes is attributed to anthropomorphic causes – warming temperatures and reduced trapping. Beavers are populating these areas in explosive numbers. The resultant locust-like beaver onslaught has caused even the study’s authors to raise concerns about how to counter the beaver infestation and protect the planet. This posture is reverse-mirrored by earlier laments that beavers were unavailable to save the Earth in North America because of European colonizers who trapped them to obscurity. Trapping, like beavers, appears to be morally climate-binary: It is an “evil” practice against good climate beavers; a “good” practice against bad ones.
