"i don't see any problem with having to go into the office, i'm perfectly content to sit for FOUR HOURS A DAY in a tiny tube filled with africans and pajeets while i consoom media on my phone"
man, british people are fucking pathetic
First I was a boomer, now I'm british. Which is wild, because I don't consider myself a PLer but I'm pretty sure I've given away enough hints in my time that I'm neither of those things.
You know that someone can be your age and your nationality and not be needlessly confrontational about basic expectations? Despite your repeated wild insistence that i must be some specific kind of subhuman to go along with it, I just get paid pretty well for what I do. That's it. Thats the big conspiracy theory, I make six figures. And I just plan to have things I want to do that don't require more than sitting down, like reading or watching videos.
I do like WFH days. I only come into the office twice a week, and sincerely avoid coming in more often. Not least because it amounts to hours more downtime where I can do whatever I want, rather than just a slightly more limited set like listening to podcasts or posting on KF. Or, like I said, sleeping in. It's not like the people who are WFH fanatics are solely doing massive valuable things for their life in their newly-acquired downtime.
But I get paid enough for it, so I'll happily arrange my time to come in if the boss wants me to. And you know what? Most of the most productive days I've been in at any company are days where I'm sharing a desk with someone else who normally I can only contact over the phone.
And it turns out, when you're agreeable and work hard enough the bosses are fine with you only coming in periodically. There literally isnt even enough seats at the office for everyone to come in at once, they're that fine with hybrid positions.
yeah I have a pretty nice thing with my work no set schedule I come in most days but I usually can get 1-2 WFH days a week if I got stuff going on like doc appointments or even longer for special situations like I had weeks where I needed to be WFH to take care of my old cat who needed our care in her old age. I give off the impression I prefer being in the office and try not to kill the golden goose so I can enjoy those comfy cozy wfh days and not have it taken away or put under greater scrutiny
That's all you have to do. Just be agreeable, and you'll probably both keep your job longer and be able to WFH whenever you need to (or just whenever you really want to, even).
I cannot believe we're in a thread about massive, ongoing layoffs and a bunch of people's takeaway is that now is the time to dig your heels in and make demands.
