This will let him ostensibly keep his power (especially if one of his understudies gets the role) but claim that he's out clean and thus can't help Trump. So if the Senate happens to flip red (note he's resigning AFTER the election, meaning he can fuck with any MAGA Primary Challengers this cycle, same as he fucked over them in 2020) then the GOPe Uniparty moles have a nice excuse as to why nothing Trump and MAGA want to get done will ever actually get done.
