Jesus, modern warfare is really becomeing more and more pathetic with all the technological advances. Sitting on your ass covered by pretty decent russian AA defense and just pressing a button to wipe out a few guys is no bravery.

he monster wunderwaffle of the week is currently the F-16.
BEFORE DEPLOYMENT.
“Hehe… The Russkies are in for a black eye now! Just wait till they meet our sophisticated X that’s light years ahead of their Soviet crap!”

AFTER DEPLOYMENT:
“Well what did you expect? The X we gave them is from the 80ies and lack modern features like Y! Ukraine will lose unless we promptly provide them with Z!”

Well… You could say the same about every other modern weapons system.

Machine guns, artillery, airplane bombs.

They also risk their lives through counter battery fire, drones etc.

In America, "red line" means "some bullshit a politician says, but doesn't really mean, in order to look good on Twitter." This was a genuine cultural misunderstanding due to unfamiliar colloqualisms (much like how eye contact with superiors is respectful in the USA and disrespectful in Japan) that, sadly, has resulted in war. If Putin had wished to properly communicate the importance of Ukraine to the American government, he should have said something like, "Russia considers a non-neutral Ukraine to be a form of online transphobia."
It's called a "red" line because that's the color their face will turn after they're done seething about it.

If there had been a joint Anglo-Ukrainian invasion of Crimea and the Donbas oblasts, Russia couldn't have done what it's doing now, not officially. That would be directly attacking the UK. In a proxy war between nuclear powers, initiative is everything.
I mean this is sort of true. However, there is no way the UK would care enough to do that in a modern war. Defensive Realism is useful as theory for a reason. The UK couldn't really accomplish this because it would be too much of an ask. This is similar to the reasons why you don't see "Bliztkrieg" today because doing so is outside the scope of what is possible.
they would have been aiding the construction of a new T-64 factory or two after 2014.
I think Ukraine could have actually accomplished this. They have a bunch of old tanks stored in a warehouses that degraded because they were not maintained. But they could have built a factory building old parts to repair the massive number of tanks they received. Hell they could have built it underground and done shitty castings for the strange geometry stuff and used CNC/Laser cutters to get to the required dimensions and tolerance.

This would be inefficient in comparison to a well running factory but it is way better than nothing.
I can easily see Ukraine having three more years at the speed Russia has been crawling forward, and five billion dollars is small change compared to the wads of cash the US and EU keep stuffing in Zelensky's lace panties by the handful.
That is one of the things about this war that shocks me. If you were a Ukrainian who was powerful and could get some of that corruption money, you have the decision to make about whether to steal it or invest that money into a successful future Ukrainian state in the form of weapons manufacturing which would pay dividends to you. But nearly everyone in power implicitly doesn't think there will be a future Ukraine so they steal for the present.

And before anyone thinks this is obviously the correct decision. Let me point out how much aid money Ukraine has received. Ukraine has received hundreds of Billions of dollars. You can do absurd amounts of useful things with that much money if you used it efficiently. Not enough to win against Russia but enough to actually turn this war into a stalemate.

Even the Ukrainians in power don't believe Ukraine is a real country.
Polish-Ukrainian relations are falling apart
Even some of Ukraine's strongest supporters are really starting to feel the strain. This whole thing has been an interesting development though I don't think it will head anywhere, and only serves as an indicator of the current situation.
Do people actually get offended by it?
I think Pro-Russian people use it more than Ukraine does at this point. All of the insults Ukraine has thrown at Russia, Russia accepts and posts themselves.
No seriously, the whole situation is very reminiscent of some children's show where the main villain sends one minion at a time who expectantly loses the confrontation, only for some reason most of the audience is rooting for the monster.
This is what happens when your war is run by politicians. They think like this and politics works like this. But war does not work like this.

Again; the Ukraine is one big proving grounds. Russia better keep in mind that in addition to knowing what works better, the burgers are going to know what doesn't work, and go from there.
You'd think and even hope, but American ego and "lol russia stupid" superiority might cripple that. Its already been semi-assumed in a lot of circles that Russia's attempts at executing next generation warfare failed because Russian Stupid, not because the tactics were stupid. They're just going to assume that obviously NATO will get it perfectly right and won't need to learn from Russia at all.

When you said "doesn't mean what you think:" my first thought was "based in this thread i think she's killed a lot, but if it's not what I think then it must mean she's a slut" then it tuirnes out yeah she's killed a lot so 🤷

Anyone with more than a room temperature IQ can see the future for Ukraine win or lose and it's not pretty in either scenario.

I see many parallels to this and the Iraq war. All the people who are pushing for more money and more escalation now in 10 years will end up like the ~70% or so people who were so gun ho about going into Iraq that all seem to have vanished without a trace.

Doubt.

And not just because of the massive brain and labor drain from Ukraine I mentioned before, and that they don’t have the workforce for it in large numbers.

It’s also a 50 year old design, and everyone originally involved are long dead.

Even though the T64 was built in Kharkov, you have to remember how the Soviet Union worked. While main tanks were built in Kharkov, the parts were built all over the Soviet Union and shipped there. Cost didn’t really matter.

The gun barrels might have come from Tula,, the optics from Estonia, engines from Volgograd, the electronics came from Moldavia, the cables from Kazakhstan, etc. etc.

It makes restarting production exceedingly hard, something Russia also suffered with.

And pairing the T64 with new parts is a whole other nightmare.
Hell they could have built it underground and done shitty castings for the strange geometry stuff and used CNC/Laser cutters to get to the required dimensions and tolerance.
Russia has already demonstrated both the will and capability to fire bunker busting Kinzhal and Iskander at underground targets.

Mass scale production is near impossible under current conditions, underground or not.

Not to mention their European allies barely have the industrial capacity to manufacture the needed tooling to let Ukraine try and larp as late stage bunker Nazi's

That's exactly how weapons systems in the US are made. The only way they can get Congressional approval for the billion-dollar planes and ships is for pieces of them to be made in every state. That's also why hardly anything works once assembled and deployed.

The Bastion of European Democracy™ wants to ban Telegram.
The most hilarious part is the fact that Telegram is the most used social platform in the Ukraine. If they were to ban it, i wonder how the military would react, seeing as its usage has been prolific amongst its soldiers. Presidential elections have been halted, so there's a decent chance that Zelensgoy could ban it. Maybe the Azog battalion will migrate over to facebook?

The more I think about it, the more likely I consider it that its just seething that they didn't get an infinite supply well from the West, so "Reasonable fortification" becomes "No Fortification" because they didn't get a dedicated Neutronium bunker with Gauss Rifles for every fifty meters of the line.
Digging trenches would be considered defeatist and show a lack of elan.

The United States, despite all the revanchist neocons originating from the former USSR/Warsaw Pact in government, is not stupid enough to go to war with Russia. That's what the Ukraine is for, and Europe.

The Ukraine had the biggest army in Europe, trained by NATO, equipped by NATO but once BoJo made his appearance to make clear there would be no negotiated end to the SMO Russia proceeded to destroy the Ukrainian military. That's why every head of state is denouncing Macron for saying NATO should send ground troops to the Ukraine. They know it would literally end with scorched earth nuclear war, in Europe.

I honestly never understood the yuro fascination with the US, which has always made it clear any conflict with the USSR/Russia would be fought in Europe; literally to the last yuro. That's what the US thinks of yuros, simply chair à canon for any conflict with Russia.

Apparently Ukrainians tried to do an another pr op. This time to take over the Tendra lighthouse (pictured in this map).

In the Kherson direction, on the wave of static clashes and mutual strikes in Krynki , something out of the ordinary happened: today the so-called MTR units. The Ukrainians tried to land on the Tendrovskaya Spit on five boats.

The movement of watercraft was noticed to the west of the lighthouse, and the MTR detachments were fired upon from machine guns, mortars and anti-tank systems. As a result, three boats were damaged and sank, one washed ashore, and another turned around and went back.

In a boat found near the shore, four liquidated special forces soldiers and one wounded man were found, who were captured and interrogated, establishing that they belonged to the landing groups of the 73rd maritime center of the Special Forces.
