The Israeli Embassy in D.C., in 2016.

A man is in critical condition after setting himself on fire midday Sunday outside the Israeli Embassy in D.C., authorities said.

No one else was injured in the incident, which took place just before 1 p.m. in the 3500 block of International Drive NW. A video shared online, which multiple officials said appeared to be posted by the man, shows him shouting “Free Palestine” as he burned.

The man said he was an active-duty member of the U.S. Air Force. A spokeswoman for the Air Force, Ann Stefanek, said they had not yet identified the man or verified whether he is in the service.

Since the Israel-Gaza war began just over four months ago, at least 29,629 people have been killed in the Gaza Strip, according to the Gaza Health Ministry. Israel estimates that about 1,200 people were killed in Hamas’s Oct. 7 attack and says 240 soldiers have been killed since the start of its military operation in Gaza.

Hamas and allied fighters took more than 253 people hostage during the attack. More than 100 were freed in exchange for more than 200 Palestinian detainees during a November pause in fighting. Israeli authorities believe that more than 100 hostages remain in Gaza.

On Sunday, uniformed Secret Service officers responded to a report of a person experiencing a possible medical or mental health emergency, said Joe Routh, a U.S. Secret Service spokesman.

Responding officers put out the fire before D.C. firefighters arrived, around 1 p.m., fire department spokesman Vito Maggiolo said. The D.C. Fire and Emergency Services department then took the man to a hospital in life-threatening condition. He remained hospitalized Sunday afternoon.

In the video, which is just over three minutes long, one person can be heard saying, “Hi, sir, can I help you?” as the man approaches the gate to the embassy.

About 12 seconds later, as a person again asks, “Can I help you, sir,” the man lights the fire.

The man burned for about a minute and collapsed on the ground, the video showed, before law enforcement began to extinguish the fire.

He’s got a very soy looking face so it could have easily been someone else.
He looks like every kid I've ever known who started listening to socialist podcasts during a slump of unemployment and a bad breakup, and within a few months was buying guns and estrogen off the dark web.

I can't find it anywhere in the archives, looks like a bad off-center Hasbara shoop too. Some Israeli 'journo' said he couldn't find evidence that it existed. I don't have pushshift access sadly but I doubt this is real

If people don't see how Jew "journos" are rushing to deboonk anything other than "this guy was a liberal retard! Laugh at him! Muslims are bad, liberals are bad, keep funding Israel my fellow based rightwing friends", then I don't know what to tell you.

He probably didn't say anything that straight forward, concise and edgy. If he were to say something like that it would likely be similar to the comment below:

Basically a lot of words with a lot of caveats to say, "Kill all Jews," instead of just saying it outright. (On Twitter it would probably be a multiline thread with "1/?" at the end of each Tweet.)

Incidentally, the people I think he hated the most were people like himself:

But to me, his most coherent and well thought out political statement is:

Bigger problems to worry about indeed, acebush1.

I'm trying to square this with the initial reactions from his friends about what a sweet guy he was, and I just can't do it. If his real world personality was anything like this, he must have been an absolutely intolerable cunt.

Of course, no one's going to say that when he's still sizzling and smoldering, but still. The point remains.

Shit, if the NY Post narrative gets out that an intelligence agent flipped the fuck out after learning that US soldiers were being used to commit genocide for israel, things could get interesting.
Ok so I did some research and the US special forces that were sent to Israel to assist in hostage recovery were likely air force para rescue troops. Everything beyond this point is an educated guess:

After it turns out that the hostage rescue efforts failed, the American para rescue troops switched missions to helping rescue wounded IDF forces from tunnels and other high risk places. In the course of some of these missions, they likely fired back in self defense. They probably filed reports about this.

Assuming Aaron had the top secret clearance he said he had, he may have come across these reports. Being a retard leftist who sees things in black and white, he assumed that the American soldiers were fighting for Israel offensively. He then freaks out, calls this friend, and kills himself.

This is the only way possible I can think of that squares that US sent some troops to assist Israel, his specific position in the air force, and the assumption that his friend wasn't lying.

Reading this brainless effusion of condemnation and vituperation, I am yet again reminded of a passage from Orwell's 1984:

What was slightly horrible, was that from the stream of sound that poured out of his mouth it was almost impossible to distinguish a single word. Just once Winston caught a phrase — ‘complete and final elimination of Goldsteinism’ — jerked out very rapidly and, as it seemed, all in one piece, like a line of type cast solid. For the rest it was just a noise, a quack-quack-quacking. And yet, though you could not actually hear what the man was saying, you could not be in any doubt about its general nature. He might be denouncing Goldstein and demanding sterner measures against thought-criminals and saboteurs, he might be fulminating against the atrocities of the Eurasian army, he might be praising Big Brother or the heroes on the Malabar front — it made no difference. Whatever it was, you could be certain that every word of it was pure orthodoxy, pure Ingsoc. As he watched the eyeless face with the jaw moving rapidly up and down, Winston had a curious feeling that this was not a real human being but some kind of dummy. It was not the man's brain that was speaking, it was his larynx. The stuff that was coming out of him consisted of words, but it was not speech in the true sense: it was a noise uttered in unconsciousness, like the quacking of a duck.

Syme had fallen silent for a moment, and with the handle of his spoon was tracing patterns in the puddle of stew. The voice from the other table quacked rapidly on, easily audible in spite of the surrounding din.

‘There is a word in Newspeak,’ said Syme, ‘I don't know whether you know it: duckspeak, to quack like a duck. It is one of those interesting words that have two contradictory meanings. Applied to an opponent, it is abuse, applied to someone you agree with, it is praise.’

This seems ironic since the average Palestinian would not piss on him if he was on fire. His pic should go in the dictionary under useful idiot.

Honest question: why are you upset?

If your primary hate is Palestine and pro-palestinians, deification of him will lead to increasing odds that others will repeat the action, leading to more of them dead.

If you hate Jews or hate billions of your taxes being spent on them, then you'll be glad that an anti-israeli action is gaining groundswell, possibly causing a shifting tide against the US politicians eternally funding its "greatest ally"

I guess the only way you could see this scenario as negative is if you strongly support Israel, or if you're so reactionary the mere fact that the liberals are being useful idiots in this case makes you hate the position instinctively.

its a stupid death but tactically i get it... like tactical misogyny

We have no idea what intel this guy was privy to. What you discovered may well be the truth, or a cover story for U.S. troops being used offensively, which isn't out of the realm of possibility. My comment was more for the narrative than what may actually have happened. If it can spread I can see fun things start to happen.

It's still a bit of a drive from Gaza. Nearest one is in Egypt is Port Said, about 4 hours away.
In AFRICA.

Also, his soyface looks like the dude in someone's avatar wearing the shirt that says "I beat my meat to hentai." Not recalling the username, sadly.

Super Chevy 454. That's the one.

I’ll just start off by saying that I don’t really have an opinion on why he set himself on fire. I do think it’s apeshit crazy that he thought it would make any kind of difference either way. The news cycles are so fast nowadays that everyone will forget about it in a week or two. Anyone, especially a 25 year old who grew up with the internet his entire life, should know that already. A total waste of time and a pointless death. I wish he could have or would have gotten help instead, but here we are.

What I do have a strong opinion on is that the video of it happening is some of the craziest shit I’ve ever seen in my entire life, and I’ve seen a lot of wild and fucked up shit on the internet, as we all have. I thought I was disturbed by the guy who shot himself in the head on stream with his mom and dog watching (the thread is here on the Farms) but at least that was instant. Lights out. Bro probably didn't feel a thing.

But setting yourself on fire?

That is on another level of fucked up. I had to watch it with the sound off because I was afraid of hearing it but the person I was with listened and said it wasn’t that bad… which is even crazier if true. I gotta give the guy credit. He truly stood on business until the very last second, regardless of how retarded the entire situation was.

I once got a second degree burn about the size of a credit card on my forearm from a cooking mishap and I cried and bitched about it for days lol. I cannot fucking conceptualize my entire body being literally on fire. Absolute nightmare fuel. Thanks to the internet yet again for showing me things that cannot be unseen. To be fair, my dumb ass clicked on it and watched the whole thing, but still.

One thing I don't get is how young Americans are so fucking buck broken by Muslims who absolutely think four planes weren't enough.

I'm sure I'm not the only one here who gets knee-walking drunk and watches the full live coverage about once a year.

There is something in the Muslim brain that does not give a fuck about individual life, and does not distinguish between military targets and civilian targets.

All those bankers and finance people shit who went to work that day, all those glowies at the Pentagon, all those people who had the bad luck to want to fly on an airplane... all totally valid targets for someone with a poison ideology.

always takes the worst possible stand in a situation, be it iran or libya, then refuses to acknowledge the moral affliction to the citizens

america is the whore who hates slut shaming. look into a mirror ffs you ho

I think this is easy: his friends are also insufferable cunts. They just have the sense not to set themselves on fire in front of an Israeli consulate. Well, at least not so far.

Ah, I see in my absence America has reached "cartel execution videos" levels. As someone with biological ties to such lands, this display of cultural appropriation is appalling. Seriously though, in spite of being braindead, this dude's death was guaranteed as soon as he was born. Every facet of life failed him. Parents, schooling, medical, military; Everything. Don't be surprised if other people do this as a fancier way of quietly killing themselves.
