best part in this that energy costs aren't usually calculated into that, so if you're an yuropoor that's where you get fucked at the end of the month on your bill.

dunno how it works in burgerland, but when every store does it to stay ahead you'd really have to memorize prices for everything to always get the cheapest, and unless you can look it up online beforehand, are you gonna turn around because of a 10 cent price difference and drive over to the other store to get it there? sure you save 10 cent, which you then spend on gas and time. the smarter choice is simply buy in bulk, which depending what and where you buy might be cheaper anyway.
it the store is running with paper labels it's also somewhat unfeasible since those would have to be constantly updated by hand, and stores like to rather not pay extra personnel for that (funny enough it's one of the reasons stores try to push digital labels they can update in real-time like fucking gas prices).

not saying it doesn't happen, but in my experience stores know customers are lazy, thus if they come for one markdown item they gonna buy the rest anyway (which they then won't buy somewhere else obviously), no need to fuck with other prices in exchange. depending on size it would be an extra logistical burden (hence cost), and the store will make the money due to volume anyway.
of course that excludes shenanigans like rising prices a week before so the discounts sounds more attractive, but that's illegal at least in some parts of europe.

It takes time to figure out for yourself what items are cheaper at each particular store on a regular basis. The longer you shop this way, the better of an idea you’ll have of this. It takes time.

In my particular part of the US, all the big chain grocery stores release their weekly ads the day before the sales start and that’s all on the same day. What I do is check all those ads the day before, and then plan on hitting the various stores as I’d be passing by them during the course of my week, grabbing anything I need, so as not to waste a bunch of gas driving to and from all of them separately.
