Nexpo/YT Horror Channels - Do they all suck

About an hour and ten minutes in he suddenly goes "lmao I'm not gonna show you everything in my four hour video go play it yourself". I'm not even sure what the point is in making such a long video if you're not going to include everything, especially when you know most people watching are going to want to see all of it..
Nick is the kind of guy that can talk really passionately and positively about a topic I like and make me completely stop liking it, it's really impressive.

His approach on this thing is really bizarre and insufferable, even by NM standards. Guy goes into extremely unnecessary detail explaining everything that happens on screen for over an hour (including the overly simple minigames at the beginning that a literal toddler could figure out) , then pulls an extremely cringy "play this on your own, you can do it, you're a big brave strong they/them!" out of nowhere, and then goes back to explaining everything in excessive detail except now he leaves out anything remotely interesting and makes it officially the world's most boring and unnecessary walkthrough. Like, I can't overstate this, he spends four to five minutes explaining how to grab four big glowing green objects and bring them where the game tells you to.

Shipwrecked has been around since 2022. Game Theory and Pyrocynical have done multiple streams covering it and there have been multiple big videos covering the entire ARG much better than Nick could possibly do. Hell, there are fucking walkthroughs on steam that are way better and more efficient than listening to Nick ramble on gushing about every sound effect he hears. By picking this weird approach Nick just makes most of his video completely pointless, you can skip all the way to the final hour without missing out on anything. All so he can stroke his own ego and feel like he's still a "big positive force" on the community.

Once I hear something is an ARG, I quickly lose interest in listening further.
For be it's because a lot of (if not most) ARGs are simply pretentious, terribly written crap, and the 'market' is oversaturated. Same with analogue horror.

Just look at "Liminal Land" - probably my favourite example for an Analogue Horror ARG that's so terrible it makes me want to scream.

If you want to make analog horror good again, you need to:
1) Gatekeep it. Make sure to sprinkle "problematic" elements all over the place and ensure that the usual crowd will be too offended or turned off to get close to it
2) Make good, obtuse puzzles that only those who are educated enough to get them will have a chance to solve it. If your average reddit troon can crack the code, you failed. It needs to be asinine enough so that you cannot guess it, and complicated enough to make sure you have to have proper experience and/or education in the field to solve the ARG.

As long as the main appeal goes to little kids and normalfags on youtube we will continue to get slop

See, the problem with this approach is that the pillars of who decides the community (youtubers who cover it) are in charge of gatekeeping. It's shitty. They associate themselves with pretentious garbage, thus allowing more pretentious garbage to be held in high regard in the community.

Look at TheSunVanished, Walten Files, Dog Nightmares, Mandella Catalog, and Angel Hare. These are vastly celebrated projects despite being pretentious garbage with even more pretentious creators. There was nothing truly good about it in the first place and the creators were the ones to message youtubers ask them to cover their project in most cases. The good ol using an alt and acting like they discovered it. Not sure if that was the case with Mandella, but Im almost positive it was the case with the others.

I know these aren't "ARGs". But they're considered in the same boat in the community. I haven't even seen a real ARG in years. I think the main one I can think of is Don't Feed The Muse? Pretty sure that one had puzzles? Idk. People treat these projects like a webseries than an ARG.

Maybe ARGs need a rebranding. A new name, new community.

at the very least thesunvanished had interaction between viewers and characters

or we could tell people what a webseries is so they stop calling everything that pretends to be real an ARG
"unfiction" was supposed to replace the term but no one uses it

It is so interesting seeing a bandwagon happen in real time. Instead of making original content, let's just repeat stuff others have said!
I think it all started with this video where Morbid talked about the origins of a classic creepy imaged famous for being in jumpscare videos.

It was not featured in the thumbnail. However, shortly after another creator posted a video featuring the image in their thumbnail since they covered it as well 6 days after this video was made.

And then now, yet another creator used it as their thumbnail, covering it as well.

Not that I don't like these videos. They make good background noise. But man, it's such a pet peeve of mine. The original topic has loads of different unexplored options available, why not post new stuff? I've seen this happen back in 2014-15 back when "creepy youtube channels" was a hot topic. Video after video featuring the same channels. younger me would light up if a video featured anything new.

Something that I noticed about the “guide” is that it doesn’t even attempt to let people figure out the solutions themselves, it just dryly tells you how to progress. It creates a very odd contrast in that you have the guy going “please please please play this yourself and experience it that way” yet if you do end up needing the video’s help, it just straight up gives you the answer to get you to the next bit.

A better-made video would enhance the experience by leading people through the puzzles, giving them the tools to figure it out themselves before eventually telling them the answer if they just can’t get it, instead this one jumps immediately to telling them the answer.

I don't know any of these ARGs and I don't see why anyone else should, either.
Make something unique and don't conform to the sloppy norms, that's about it

The issue isn’t so much that they want to make money but that censorship is forced more or less on people.
These people don't have guns pointed to their head demanding that they remove any mention of the words "rape" or "murder" in their youtube video about a person who got raped and murdered. It's entirely about the money, it's the primary avenue youtube uses to censor people, by taking their money away. These faggots have patreon and sponsors, at that point it's a decision between making a better videos that can accurately describe and depict the events they're discussing or squeezing out a few extra dollars in ad revenue, and unfortunately they choose the latter. Crowley in particular is a fucking retard because often times he'll say "this video is too graphic for youtube" despite the uncensored footage of what he's talking about literally being on youtube. They are sellouts who now have to spend 40 minutes trying to convince other absent minded mouth breathers that reddit posts and le haunted video game is actually the scariest shit in the world because talking about gorey or unnerving situations or all the fucked up shit that actually happens in the real world won't net them as many bazinga bucks as chipmunks on a ship, and on the off chance that they do talk about genuinely unnerving shit it has to be sanitized to hell, completely removing the impact. That's the choice they made.

It is, of course, about the money. But the problem isn't just the loss of revenue from demonetization; they also throttle down those videos, killing their momentum on the algorithm, which in turns affects future videos. Sometimes they even get deleted for using the real words (an example I recall was a guy called I think Bernievids who got either the video or the whole channel deleted for not censoring himself on a video about fucking Kurt Cobain's death).
So it's not just protecting their ad revenue, but protecting the future of their channels from getting buried by the system.

I fucking hate all the weasel words and they have almost entirely turned me off from watching this entire genre of videos, but I can kind of understand it.

Does anyone else miss when iceberg charts weren't a thing youtubers milked for topics? I remember going on /x/ and seeing iceberg generals with dumb/made up conspiracies and maybe two entries that were credible.
There are some good iceberg charts on youtube, but the majority of it is just consumer slop.
Made up entries on an iceberg are fake and gay and I will happily watch my 4 hour ancient mystery Iceberg (Part 1) video thank you very much.

A couple years back Nexpo did a FNAF analogue ripoff called The Walten Files and it's so bad and incomprehensible I can't believe he wasn't laughing throughout making it even though the video plays it completely straight.
Not only is this garbage still going, it's still garbage and somehow there are farmers who enjoy this slop. Don't forget the tranny voice actor for the needlessly lesbian character for those extra virtue signal points.
Also all the fan art is ugly as sin, but what's new there?

it's a straight copy of five nights at freddy's but with bad grammar and everyone having a horse face
and instead of sending the robots to a scrapyard or selling them off, freddy fazbears pizza builds an underground storage facility like yucca mountain and sends in security teams to patrol the place

i think the only good channel that handled conspiracy iceberg was DeadRabbitRadio, it helped he was an /x/ lurker and would go in deep over the word salad ones trying to find a real case that fit it using usually an /x/ post as base for it.
