I think SBI is just a visible symptom of the increase in DEI and ESG over the past decade (at the very least). I agree with the notion that companies would probably have their own internal component that would do similar stuff to what SBI does, or hire an outside firm to make the game as sterile and non-offensive as possible. It's partly the reason why modern games from multiple nowadays tend to have long disclaimers about the people in the time period having different values, or how diverse the team participating in the story/game creation is, to preemptively fend off accusations of racism, sexism, and the like.
