"authoritarianism hates anything that gives us a choice over ourselves bc then we might start thinking we have choices everywhere"
Is that why you support rigid gender roles you can "choose" between? And the state imprisoning people who disagree with your beliefs?
The first reply is also something that people say a lot but never think about for even a couple minutes to see why it's stupid to say. It's an incredibly low level of knowledge about politics in general because any idiot can recognize that the very nature of freedom or rights imposes duties on others to at the very least not interfere. Even at the basic level of personally claiming a right to life, liberty and property I'm saying others
should not kill me, imprison/enslave me or steal my shit. I am at the very least binding them
morally to not do this. I suspect these idiots know this because they seem like the type to have once responded in another argument with something like "oh, what about my freedom to murder and rape?" as if this was an epic gotcha that brought down the whole of political philosophy for the first time.
This trans stuff is especially a stupid place to say this. Are women free when they cannot keep males out of their spaces or sports or whatever? This person, and Tony, would obviously object and say that women aren't really free until they're forced to be free of transphobia.
This is another instance where they can't see how anyone else would think differently from them other than just being evil to be evil. Abortion opponents literally believe that the freedom and rights of the child to be are being violated in the worst way possible. To them a world where "we are all free" does not include abortion. It's fine to disagree with them, to balance the rights of the mother and child, and many other things. It's narcissist hubris to simply declare their concerns to be illegitimate and "not freedom." They would obviously reject a world where you're free to be anything but trans, but they don't maintain this for those who are different from them.
If your conception of freedom only exists in a world where everyone agrees on everything then it's not a very good one.
