Russian Special Military Operation in the Ukraine - Mark IV: The Partitioning of Discussion

Maybe that'll just justify Ukraine feeling that they 'Have' to force a counter offensive regardless of capability,

Ukraine has to force a counter offensive because if they don't, America will have the current government overthrown and replaced with somebody who will keep feeding young men (and now, women) into Russian guns.

We're going to have, at minimum, our migrant-populated homosexual diversity state, even if we can't get Crimea, and Ukrainians have no say in the matter. It's always worth remembering that Russia only stayed in WW1 (which led directly to the October Revolution) because the USA threatened to stop funding the government.

Lol why are truckers so based in damn near any country you go to?
I wonder if the the credit for using big ass vehicles to make a political statement should not go to Islamic terrorists first. Thats the first time I remember trucks being used for other purposes than transporting goods.

It is now often propagated by pro-Western shills that the Russian army was almost entirely composed of Ukrainians. A fact they back up by saying that the Russian army was composed (mostly) from conscripts from oblasts of today's territory of Ukraine, who were majority Ukrainian.
Funny that, here the russophiles made the same argument, just for a different reason. They said that when the Soviets killed our little uprising in '56, they were mostly Ukrainian troops, as an answer to why they side with Russia instead of Ukraine. Which is a dumb argument for multiple reasons, one is that Ukrainian didn't really exist back then as others said, and because modern day Russia is not the same as the USSR, and the political situation changed a lot, so why would it matter. Allies and enemies come and go real fast in geopolitics.

I have to assume it's the selection pressure of the job, you don't make it as a trucker if you are particularly sociable and don't have strong problem solving skills.

probably the biggest deficiency compared to a T-90 in this war is the lack of top protection.

There's really only a few places on top of a t-90m that you can hit which will ensure a kill. Most of the top section of a t-90m is protected by explosive reactive armor and the tank is already tiny compared to an abrams. Conversely an Abrams was designed with absolute zero consideration for top attacks so it has numerous large flat surfaces that are very thinly protected by armor and it's not impossible that it could even be taken out by an anti-personnel "grenade dropper" drone with some luck on the drone operators part.
Are drones or grenades at terminal velocity fast enough to trigger ERA?

Seems to me Russia been using more and more cluster munition. See video below of 3 cluster bombs (RBK-500) with probably UMPK modules. Covering a Ukrainian trench positions.

Really was stupid of Ukrainians and their allies opening this pandora's box. As it has come to bite them in the ass. Especially now against freshly dug and uncovered trenches, like the Ukranians are using.

That looks spectacular like those domino fall clips.

In other news: 10 % goes to the "big guy"

burns about double the amount of fuel a leopard 2 does at the same speed, and burns at a high rate even at idle which in this war is what a lot of tanks are spending most of their time doing
Incorrect. Even the initial version of the M1 and it's power pack were ~65% worse at worst.

Newer M1s have APUs to run the tank when it's sitting still at idle.

modernized t-90, it doesn't have explosive reactive armor (at least no package that can be practically applied to it), it doesn't have an auto loader, it has a slightly smaller main gun,
Tusk 1 and 2 aren't difficult to apply. Tusk 2 adds better side hull and turret sides ERA.

No auto loader is almost every western tank and that's due to different design philosophy. The US tested autoloaders in tanks as far back as the 1950s and Meggit has a drop in autoloader ready to go for the M1 for years now

5mm of gun tube diameter is essentially meaningless, what really matters is the length of the penetrator rod in your AP shell, what metal it's made of and if your HE shell is programmable.

That's pretty much my take on the Abrams. It's absolutely better than something like a modernized t-72, but it absolutely doesn't hold up against truly modern MBTs.

An incredible tank for its era but it's well past its expiration date. Other armies keep old MBTs around, but they keep them around to support their modern MBTs. They don't just keep them around and expect them to fight head to head with other countries' modern MBTs.
The T-90 up until the T-90M was very close to a T-72B. Slightly better turret and a better engine and sight but the sight and engine got backported to the T-72B with the B3 model.

The Abrams has also been continually upgraded for ~20 years. M1A2 to SeP to SepV2 to SePv3 to M1E3 (due in a few years)
Such as?

Tank kills aren't made by other tanks these days. Drones, laser guided munitions and ATGMs are the anti-tank meta, it's pointless trying to build new tanks to fight tanks.
Tanks still kill other tanks. ATGMs have been a thing since the late 1950s. Artillery killing tanks have been going on since 1916.
I mean that covered a big chunk of what you mentioned, but that also applies to ATGMs. The Abrams really wasn't designed with such weapons in mind which is why it has basically zero protection against any high angle attack.
When almost every modern tank was designed, top attack ATGMs weren't a thing. Nor were FPV drones.

High angle attack protection is the turret roof, like almost all other tanks. Maybe there will be a TUSK 3.0 package with a anti drone cage on top or roof mounted ERA bricks.
Are drones or grenades at terminal velocity fast enough to trigger ERA?
Nope. Even 30mm autocannon rounds shouldn't set off newer ERA blocks.

It looks to me like the blowout panels successfully redirected the ammunition ignition, so its probably actually quite fixable. Its a bit of an odd one to me, it obviously isn't a catastrophic kill but to my understanding it was probably captured, which is clearly worse?
That's depot level maintenance to gut the engine and replace the turret, which is the M1A1 model, and I doubt we have any of those spares kicking around in EURCOM.

It's effectively destroyed for the time being

As for flights, there are plenty of countries that fly to Russia: Morocco, Emirates, Turkey, Serbia among others. Prices aren’t insane
I mean it depends on what you feel like is insane. Paying 1000€ for a flight to Moscow via Istanbul is kind of still viable if you'd really have to go there but then you remember that you paid 80€ for a direct flight from Leipzig 5 years ago and it becomes ridiculous.

Best route that I know right now is Gdansk > Kaliningrad. Helsinki is possible too if you have a EU passport.

I’m seeing reports about another Abrams lost near Avdeyevka:

It’s not anywhere near 1000 Euros lol… More like half that. Or less on sale.

You're right. Apparently it went down quite a bit. Still leaves the hassle of having to layover in Turkey.
Oh noes! Changing planes! The arduous task of walking around for an hour and a half browsing stores. ;)

In other news, it seems that the Banderites are sending actual fucking children to the front:

IMG_5024.jpeg

Can’t help but wonder how much of a “volunteer” she was. Lured by promises of a big payday that’ll never arrive since she’ll be listed as “missing” and guarantees of not going to the front but peeling potatoes in the rear or some shit like that.

Here is the second dead Abrams…

Smart. Tracks have always been a weak point. Take them out and the tank is a sitting, immobile duck, since the crew usually gets the F outta dodge when that happens.

Must hurt seeing abrams wasted like this.
They probably wheren't the top shelf of abrams but even if they where rags the abrams have always been a symbol of the US military and their global policing.
No doubt it kills morale loosing one to cheap ass iranian drones
i have now been informed it wasn't a cheap ass iranian drone but instead a cheap ass 3d printed Russian drone.
So this is the true power of not fucking up your own home manufacturing, impressive
