Elden Ring

I got the impression Gold mask's ending is one of the better ones. The extent to which the golden order is malicious is unknown, it definitely did bad things, but if you remove the ability for it to be corrupted and do bad shit you get a stagnant but probably well held together world. You chose to return the world back to the glory days and keep it there, but also ensure that nothing better will ever arise to take it's place.

The other endings seem worse, it seems like the best out of the generic Elden Lord endings. Dusk means zombies take over? No thanks. Dung means everyone is an omen. No thanks. Fracture means you're the biggest dick around but the world is still totally fucked.

Ranni's ending is clearly the golden ending. Though I really wonder what the cut Age of Absolute ending was meant to be.
I've said this before, I think, but this is the first Souls game where I actually felt like I was playing it WRONG
I felt this way my first playthrough but patches have gone a long way towards making strength builds and melee builds more viable and less ridiculously difficult. Leaning into Faith or Int helps a lot regardless though.

I've heard it theorized that Goldmask's ending is about obliterating free will entirely, as it was the freedom to choose which allowed the Order to be corrupted in the first place.
Don't know how well that holds up. I always assumed Goldmask's plan was to create monotheism.

Got a bit of a hankering to back into Elden Ring so continued with my second character. I have accepted I'm too much of a retard to play a high int low vigor character after Mogh destroyed me consistently for an hour. Then, after still getting destroyed even with 60 vigor anda +10 Moonveil, I proceeded to kill of stragglers that I had on queue like Rykard (took me more tries than I will ever admit) and went up to Morgot (Christ almighty is he a pushover) then went back to the Mogh thunderdome... and I still got my shit kicked in, but at least this time I'm managing to get him into phase 2.

I'm using Moonveil though no idea if things have changed a lot with all of the patches and I should aim for another Int based weapon, I still have to complete Ranni's quest to get the Moonlight Greatsword which I wouldn't mind using. My Int is at around 30 with Renalla's hat for reference. I'm still using the gravity staff since the carian one is not really impressing me and from what I've gathered, Renalla's one won't be worth it till I hit absurd levels of int. So any suggestions on staff to hunt down and how much to level it till it becomes better than the gravity one?

Goldmask removes the influence of the gods. The greater will is still present, but now the world cannot be subjected to the fickle will of the gods.

Edit: Was wondering, anybody know what they meant by this description on the Sun Realm Shield?

Shield of honor depicting a city crowned by the sun.
It has seen better days.

Much like the wear upon the shield, the Seat of the Sun is long faded away.

I mean, probably just a reference to DS, but it makes one wonder...

Academy Glintstone Staff is the best for 60 or less/over 25 int, at 30 int the AGS gets better at +14 and above. Drops from the dudes at the academy or if you do Thops' quest. Do not fall for the Crystal Staff meme if you're levelling int further, it's only better if you don't wanna use basic smithing stones while not killing ANY bosses for whatever reason, where it BARELY beats the Meteorite one at +7 and higher. That +14 AGS is only one point off the Crystal Staff at +7 when you can equip it and only gets equal at max level at 70 int, when you'd use any other endgame staff. Only use it if you're willing to grind endgame enemies for a second staff for a boost to Crystal sorceries. You can check these numbers and more :using https://eip.gg/elden-ring/build-planner/

For Mohg are you using the flask that wards against his aids blood?
And Rykard is using the spear from his chamber.

Anyway, when it comes to staves or most weapon, once you upgrade said weapon past a certain threshold and you get it's scaling higher, then you see a return on the investment in your damage dealing stat.
More to the point, if you have low int and plan to keep it that way for some time, the best staff would be Demi-Human Queen's Staff. And if you plan to melee, ever tried Clayman's Harpoon with magic/cold and using Spectral Lance? I used to run this with a Misericode for stance breaking and huge crit and both weapons are available rather early, with the harpoon being somewhat of a bitch to farm.

Turns out I already had a couple in my pocket, upgraded one to +17 with what I had in hand, still not expecting to be nuking stuff left and right but I never felt like magic was easy mode at any point for real (took me a stupid amount of times to beat invading Elmer...). The 3 meteor gravity spell still seemed like the most effective from what I tried and comet azur I can only presume has been long nerfed from the days it nuked everything. I am liking Glintstone Peble, but stuff like Loreta's Greatbow seem like gimmick or stuff to help traverse areas, not really boss killers.

Well, I wasn't even reaching phase 2 when I restarted playing, but I did go for it during my run of trying to take down (and fail) Mogh by killing other shit and getting stuff that could help. Moonveil at +10, a staff with some omph on it, 60 vigor and the proper flask are my preparations up to now. I do think I'll need to hunt for items to empower the flask though since now I'm barely curing a third of my bar and god knows how many I've missed from beelining to specific things during that whole playthrough.

And yeah, I fought Rykard with the serpent slayer, hence why it was so pathetic it took me so long, I clearly was rusty. Died to the snake phase too many times and when I did kill him, he never used the storm of exploding skulls spell which allowed stuff to not be too hectic.

Warning: Item description autism ahead
Who knows what lore will actuallybe expanded on in the DLC. My hopes are for an exploration of either the thematic connection between Godwyn's mermaid/fish/water stuff and the Malenia-Miquella duo through Malenia's mentor, the Blue-Cloth swordsman, or the possible connection between Miquella-Godwyn-Eclipse-Deathbirds.
blue-cloth-set-elden-ring-wiki-guide.png
In pretty much every Soulsborne game, "stagnancy"/"order"/"stability" are associated with decay and degeneration (the failing Age of Fire, the fall of the Healing Church, etc.). Elden Ring is no exception, with the decline of the Golden Order being the central plotline of the game.
Similarly (and more symbolically), Malenia's corruption is associated with stagnant water, via the Lake of Rot and the Swamp of Aeonia. Malenia's mentor, on the other hand, is tied to flowing water, the polar opposite of stagnancy. The Blue-Cloth swordsman (who is blind like Malenia) taught her how to fight in this style of flowing water, inspiring the Waterfowl Dance. And by fighting like flowing water, the mentor sealed away the Outer God in the Lake of Rot.
Blue Dancer Charm:
A cloth doll depicting a dancer garbed in blue.
An ancient heirloom of some sort.

Raises attack power with lower equipment load.

The dancer in blue represents a fairy, who in legend bestowed a flowing sword upon a blind swordsman. Blade in hand, the
swordsman sealed away an ancient god — a god that was Rot itself.
Flowing Curved Sword:
Legends speak of a master of the sword garbed in blue, and his curved blade that was patterned after flowing water.
Strong attack unleashes a series of strikes akin to a dance, offering a glimpse into the legend.
Prosthesis-Wearer Heirloom:
A talisman engraved with a scene from a heroic tale.
Raises dexterity.

Though born into the accursed rot, when the young girl encountered her mentor and his flowing blade, she gained wings of unparalleled strength.
Blue Cloth Cowl:
Cowl of a nomadic warrior.
The blue color of its fabric symbolizes brisk waters, as fluid and flowing as the sword in the hand of its wearer.

Just as still waters turn foul, stagnation leads to decay.
Warriors must remain ever-drifting.
Malenia and the Scarlet Rot are not the only corruption in Elden Ring associated with stagnant water. It's been discussed ad nauseam that Godwyn and Deathblight are associated with water (Godwyn is a gross fish man sitting in a filthy puddle, Deathroot by ponds, Tibia Mariners, Deathblight Crabs by the Leyndell moat, etc.). Not just any water; specifically, the Deathblight is primarily associated with still water. I'm not much of a weeb, but my understanding is that in Japanese folklore, stagnant water is a symbol of corruption, death, disease, and rot, which explains why both Scarlet Rot and Deathblight would have a standing water connection. I also think that it is no coincidence that Godwyn, even as a fishman, is always depicted wearing a blue-cloth sash.

(More of a stretch, but I don't think it's a coincidence that Malenia and the Blue-Cloth Swordsman are/were blind, while Godwyn and Deathblight are associated with clouded, seemingly-unseeing eyes. Also, the Godwyn under Stormveil Castle seems to be missing its eyes; the eyelids cover empty sockets.)

I wouldn't be surprised if Miquella was equally inspired by the Blue-Cloth swordsman who helped his sister seal away her stagnant rot, and that is why he hoped to free Godwyn from his stagnant-water undeath. There is plenty of lore showing that Miquella had the goal of freeing Godwyn from his current state (and anyone who says there is no lore connecting Miquella to Godwyn is smoking crack). The Eclipse Spirit in Castle Sol (Miquella's fort) has this to say:
Ohh great sun! Frigid sun of Sol! Surrender yourself to the eclipse! Grant life to the soulless bones!
The Spirit at the end of Castle Sol has this to say:
Lord Miquella, forgive me. The sun has not been swallowed. Our prayers were lacking. Your comrade remains soulless. I will never set my eyes upon it now, your divine Haligtree.
The Eclipse Shotel, one of the major rewards of Castle Sol, has the "Death Flare" Ash of War, referencing Godwyn and Deathblight.
Set the lusterless sun ablaze with the Prince of Death's flames, inflicting the death ailment upon foes.
Finally, the Golden Epitaph makes pretty clear that Miquella wants Godwyn to be freed:
A sword made to commemorate the death of Godwyn the Golden, first of the demigods to die.

Infused with the humble prayer of a young boy; "O brother, lord brother, please die a true death."

Given that the DLC is clearly Miquella-heavy, I would be shocked if we don't get something related to Godwyn and the Eclipse. This post is already long and autistic enough without in-depth rambling about what exactly the Eclipse is, or what endgoal Miquella has. Maybe it's as simple as that the Haligtree was meant to "eclipse" the Erdtree, tying into the two intertwined trees in the DLC. There might be some connection to the Deathbirds and their relatively unexplored lore. (There is a Deathbird right by Castle Sol, and they were associated with rituals to "cleanse"/burn death through Ghostflame.) Or maybe the DLC tree(s) are the "lampwood" that "guides the dead of the spirit world," referenced in the description of the Helphen's Steeple greatsword dropped by the Tibia Mariner overlooking Castle Sol.

Or maybe Miyazaki will strike again, and the DLC will have basically no connection to the unexplored lore from the base game. :optimistic:

... comet azur I can only presume has been long nerfed from the days it nuked everything.
Comet Azur has never been nerfed actually. In fact in several patches they've reduced FP consumption and increased damage of most other spells, such as Glintstone Cometshard, Comet, Oracular Bubbles, etc. In fact, the only spells they've had to nerf were Adula's Moonblade (which kept its previous FP buff and also got more front loaded cast speed from dex when it was nerfed) and Stars of Ruin (before they made PvP and PvE balance changes separate, they nerfed its tracking and never went back to change it- making it worse than Star Shower against certain fast enemies and Ancient Death Rancor in most cases due to ADR's extra stagger). Other than that it was fixing a chain cating bug that let you instantly cast slow and high damaging spells by casting Catch Flame or Carian Slicer, such as Theodorix's Magma or Honed Bolt.

Comet Azur just has a specific setup needed for the nuke, namely a magic/infinite FP tear physick, Terra Magicka, talismans (Ex: Magic Scorpion, Graven Mass) and Azur's Crown against a slow moving/walking until a certain distance boss. Even then it's worse than Meteorite of Astel in every way in my opinion (physical dmg can be buffed in more ways, has tracking, deals insane poise damage, looks cooler unless you like a certain series) and you can even get the same effect but better if you brave the most ass group boss in the game and get Crystal Torrent (has tracking, spread legitimately compensates for aim sometimes as well). So you CAN do the nuke, just don't expect it to work for every boss. There's a reason you mostly see Commander Niall and Mohg being killed like this if you search for it.

You know the magic in the game is shit when the best magic is throwing a rock.

Also anyone know what the DLC weapons are yet? I want bone fist and a sword-catalyst and I'm not going back for anything less.

Well they did show that triple kick in the trailer, so we're at least getting an Ash of War that does that.

From what I've heard, one of the weapon types is going to be "great katanas".

If you're talking about Rock Sling, it's nowhere near the best lol. It has it's uses since it's physical damage and has good poise damage, but ever tried to use it indoors? It's annoying as hell.
I don't think there's a best magic, but rather different tools for different scenarios. For example, I've personally used Loretta's Bow and Oracular Bubble quite a lot throughout the entire game and I've only ever used Comet Azur once, to test it, then canned it.

As for DLC weapons, it seems we have something like bone fist (the kung fu attack), repeater crossbows, throwing daggers (that are not consumables), ōdachi and some other variant of big sword.
To my knowledge that was revealed so far.

Oh so the dlc weapons are literally just assets from sekiro?

Hard pass then.

True, FromSoftware is know to re-use assets on occasion, but I don't believe it's always a bad thing.
It's better to wait a bit for more information to come out, then make your decision. As it stands, it's still too premature.

Don't forget the underhand dual daggers.

Or they could possibly be swords.

Edit: I got a feeling that we're going to get some armor pieces that were already in the game, but we just couldn't get them for some reason.

It's just if they're going to asset rip praying strikes it's definitely going to just be an AoW instead of a legit moveset. I hope I'm wrong though.

I love this game cuz of rock throw and optic blast. And I'm really pissed I can't do either mid unarmed combo.

Also how shitty any unique Strong attack was in comparison to what it used to be.

:agree:
The main reason i switched from playing DS3 to ER was because the PVP experiance is better overall. i prefer the art direction and themes of DS3 but you can't deny ER's overall multiplayer gameplay improvements. More active player base, bigger maps, cooler weapons, can invade everywhere in the world at the same time, semi-functional anticheat, etc...
I would love for fromsoft to copy/paste/reskin some weapons/armor from the previous games so I can continue using them. Some would consider it lazy, but I consider it getting to continue playing the game I want to.
Main weapons/spells I want brought back from DS3:

How many bosses do people think there will be in the DLC? I think there'll be about 6-8 :optimistic:
Also, what do people think Miquella looks like? I have a feeling he looks like this:
