I'm not sure I'd say it did lead to everything collapsing. Military service wasn't exclusive (nor even preferential) to non-romans. Just as it is today most recruits signed up because military service offered a level of economic security. I think maybe you're confusing it for the foederati? It ties into the rise of feudalism (tldr foederati chieftains are given control of large border regions, and use it to set up personal fiefdoms rather than serve the central government). It's the actual major way barbarians contributed to the fall of Rome, but this is also something Roman citizens were already doing, too, so blaming only the barbarians for it is silly.

For the conscription sperging: when you are face with 4 bulky dudes who are not averse to just punch you, you don't have many chances to get away. Once you are surrounded, your chances are basically zero. It's totally understandable that a young man chooses the uncertain risk in the future instead of the certain pain and potential injury of the present.
What I don't understand is why don't we see old men pull a St. Terry, and just plow through these glowing ukroniggers with their ukaz or whatever is the old bulky car there. If I'm 70, and don't have much to lose, that's something I can do for the youth of my community. If enough people do that, also shoot them when they just see them in the streets, recruiting will become a risky job.

For me it isn't hard at all to be sympathetic to Aurelian, the man had in just 5 years saved the Empire from complete anhilation and he did it despite all the odds being against him from the get-go, that secretary who betrayed him did so because he was caught lying about a "minor issue", however you could argue that when you are the secretary of the fucking emperor you should never lie about anything.
