Dramacow "Daddy" Derek Savage - Creator of Cool Cat Saves the Kids

The Virus Wars movie "premiered" on Vimeo yesterday. Any links to watch it without having to digitally rent it?
Spent New Years weekend with a friend and we got drunk and watched Cool Cat The Virus Wars. I ponied up the 5bux to watch it on Vimeo.

The "movie" is 61 minutes long and the first third of it (at least) are scenes and footage straight up recycled from Cool Cat Fights Cornavirus. Cool Cat talking to those two annoying girls whose only vocal level is a screech about how to wash their hands, Dirty Dog performing his "Coronavirus is a Scam" rap song, Dirty Dog making a big coronavirus ball that he throws at Cool Cat, etc. The opening credits are even recycled from the coronavirus movie. Extremely lazy.

The remaining 40 minutes is a sloppily edited together mish-mash of leftover footage from Derek's failed "Cool Cat Flips A House" show and some new scenes filmed where Dirty Dog makes another virus and tries to spread it. More shots from previous Cool Cat movies are peppered in but new lines are ADR'd over the footage. You can tell when Derek does this because Cool Cat's shirt will randomly change colors between scenes and it fucks with the continuity. Dirty Dog's shirt also changes color. There are multiple scenes where the words being spoken simply do not line up with the mouth movements of the people on screen.

The movie builds up to a scene in the middle of the desert where Dirty Dog is skulking around with a bottle of his new virus and Cool Cat shows up and punches the bottle out of his hand. Cool Cat then kicks Dirty Dog in the stomach making him shit his pants and his fart kills the virus. That's the big finish. The movie ends with Cool Cat aimlessly wandering away into the Nevada desert.

There's some foreshadowing in Dirty Dog's dialog where he explicitly threatens to attack a school so hopefully Derek doesn't pussy out and he actually makes the school shooting movie. Dirty Dog also says "woke" during one of his songs proving Derek is down with today's lingo. Derek talks salaciously with Mama Cat a couple of times in the film which is always kinda fucked up because it's obvious Mama Cat is just the Cool Cat costume with eyelashes and lips velcro'd on. There's a random "PSA" at the end of the film where Derek and Cool Cat say they support adopting shelter animals and they bring out a husky who doesn't seem to like Cool Cat very much. I feel bad for the dog considering it's a husky and it lives in the desert.

Overall it's really not worth the five bucks.

@Falcon Sebben nailed it, Derek is just lazy. He's been doing this for as long as he's been making Cool Cat features. Cool Cat Saves The Kids is a mish-mash of footage strung together from Derek's previous short films Cool Cat Kids Superhero, Cool Cat Finds a Gun, and Cool Cat in the Christmas Parade. Arguably Cool Cat Saves The Kids is a little more "coherent" but it jumps around because of the source material (like why the hell is Cool Cat suddenly invited to be in a Christmas parade in the middle of the movie when that has nothing to do with the "plot").

Honestly I'm kind of upset at Derek because of how little work he put into The Virus Wars. People were poking him on Twitter/X and in YouTube comments asking when the next film would be out and Derek would come up with excuses and say things like "we have just one more scene to film" and whatnot when in reality 33% of his movie is recycled from the previous one and another massive chunk of it is salvage footage from something he definitely had already filmed prior to starting The Virus Wars.

I have no idea what Derek does for a living, if anything, but I don't know what eats up his free time. This movie looks like the kind of shit my friends and I would film over a weekend when we were in high school, the only difference is Derek is using expensive cameras and has a small crew with him to provide an air of legitimacy to what he's doing.

Oh yeah, and that tranny that Derek was photographed with on Reddit late last year didn't appear in The Virus Wars. No idea who that person was or what that post was about.

Must be some cash flow issues at the Savage household.

He either can't be bothered or can't afford to actually make new movies anyway if he is just recycling old footage.
If the people in Uganda could make an action movie better than any Derek Savage movie for less than $200 (without recycling any movie content). Why does Derek Savage depend on donations? Oh right, Derek cuts ties with everyone he sees.

Does anyone know where I might be able to find Derek's books? On his website he has links to the first chapters of some of the stuff he's written, like this. However it appears he never digitally published these books anywhere because they seem to not exist outside of these samples on his site. They might be physical only? I kind of went down a rabbit hole looking for them, I found a book on Amazon called "Hell's Nightmare" that isn't mentioned anywhere on Derek's websites but it appears to be one of his books. It's out of print and not for sale and was published in November 2000 according to the Amazon page. The description of the book provided mentions Sweet Revenge by name so that book had to have come first however I can find no trace of it on any book publication database. That might be because the "publisher" listed is Savage Books so that tells me this was a vanity or self-published thing so the effort might've been too small for it to show up on Amazon or Goodreads etc.

I don't know if the "About the Author" section of Hell's Nightmare on Amazon is recent. It mentions "The Dancer" which appears to be another name for Derek's book about the male dancer, Bad Boy. But it also mentions Cool Cat??? This was from November 2000 so I doubt Derek had thought up Cool Cat 20+ years ago. The summary also says "Derek also writes and produces cartoons" when I can't find any evidence of a cartoon by Derek whatsoever.

It's all very confusing.

edit: According to WorldCat.org there is one single copy of Hell's Nightmare in the Cleveland Public Library and no other fucking library anywhere. But that's not exactly an afternoon trip for me...

You could probably do an interlibrary loan.
Not a bad idea. The county library where I live doesn't seem to offer this. I checked for the neighboring county which is a much larger city and they do offer interlibrary loans but it appears they only do it through a specific centralized database of media. I searched the database but no luck, Derek's book isn't there. *sigh*

For a mere $54 plus $7 S&H you can have your very own copy of Hell's Nightmare (AbeBooks). It's listed as having been published in 2000. Like Bad Boy, it's had other titles and may be what's currently shown on dereksavage.com as The Second Coming.
TV Tropes says Hell's Nightmare was later titled The Judgment (link):
Other self-published Savage book projects include children's books starring such characters as Trolly the Trout and Bible Birdie, and novels with titles like Bad Boy: The Male Dancer (formerly titled Midnight Stripper: A Male Dancer Story and The Dancer: A Male Stripper Story), Sweet Revenge and The Judgment (originally Hell's Nightmare, among many, many other titles).

In the "first chapters" section of dereksavage.com, he put up a chapter of The Second Coming and at the bottom of the page (link), states "'The Judgment' Cover Design by Derek Savage. Copyright © 2023, Derek Savage." So Hell's Nightmare = The Judgment = The Second Coming?

The Coolcat fandom offers another variation, God's Wrath - The Second Coming, which it lists as an unpublished novel as of summer 2020 (link). There's a screenplay, too. Under that page's list of unpublished adult novels, it lists both The Judgement and The Second Coming.

Annnnd there's this blurb Google Books preserved from 2010 (link):
Derek Savage writes novels, scripts, kids books and music. From his novels and screenplays, THE COMING PROPHECY, an end-time thriller where two lovers get caught in a extreme journey and witness the Last Days; and THE DANCER, the life and times of a male dancer; to SWEET REVENGE, where a man gets justice against the street gang that murdered his family. ----- Derek Savage has created six series of childrens books; COOL CAT, TROLLY THE TROUT, BARNYARD BUDDIES, DONNY THE DINOSAUR, BABY CAT and BIBLE BIRDIE; books that depict positive and uplifting messages and teaches children in a fun and loving way.

Sounds like the same book to me. So we've got:
  • Hell's Nightmare (2000)
  • The Judgment (date?)
  • The Coming Prophecy (2010)
  • God's Wrath - The Second Coming (2020)
  • The Second Coming (2023)
Whatever the book has been or is now called, the reviews may be more more fun than the book. The one verified purchaser on Amazon called it a "pinata of idiocy" (link). Excerpts from the other four reviews:
  • This is the worse thing I have ever read.
  • I read all of the top authors; Tom Clancy, Michael Criton, Dean Koontz, Danielle Steel, Stephen King, and Hell's Nightmare is right up there with the best of them.
  • This is the most fascinating piece of fiction since Catcher in the Rye.
  • It made my heart feel warm. There are real men still left.
A Coolcatty litter box aroma does waft off the last three there, yes. Those reviews spanned 19 years - 2000 to 2019. An enduring piece of literature. On Goodreads, the one review - from 2018 - says in its entirety, "ahahahahahaha it's books like these that make me wish goodreads had the option of 0 stars! Lol!"

Like you before me, I found the rabbit hole branches into a Y. While he's used his Savage Books as the publisher of his adult fiction, he's used his Blue Thunder Books for his children's books, a number of which are available for Kindle and one of which is sold as an audio book. I haven't found anything indicating when Derek began self-publishing children's books, but Cool Cat first appeared in 2001 and wasn't the first series Derek undertook.

It seems to be widely accepted that the first Cool Cat book was Cool Cat Stops Bullying, which rolled out in 2012 as a combo package with a short live-action film on DVD that was later edited together with two other short Cool Cat films to create Cool Cat Saves the Kids in 2015.

That's off by at least 15 years. In 2001, according to Google Books, Derek self-published the 32-page Cool Cat Learns Karate, illustrated by Denny Bustamante (link), who also illustrated a number of Derek's books before 2006 and voiced "Skipper" in a 3-minute 2004 animated short, Trolly the Trout. Derek, of course, voiced Trolly. One of the Trolly books, Trolly Finds a Gun, became the 2015 Cool Cat Finds a Gun, which was rolled into Cool Cat Saves the Kids.

Also issued by Derek: Cool Cat Loves Karate and Cool Cat Loves MMA Karate.

On Amazon today for Kindle, Derek has eight Cool Cat books, three Trolly the Trout books, three Baby Cat books, plus Best Buddies, and Bible Birdie (link). Barnes & Noble has at least two of his ebooks. The audio book he made of himself reading Bible Birdie can be bought online from at least three vendors: Storytel, Nextory, and Downpour.

Birdie, btw, has been dunked on Amazon (link | archive.ph). One of its three reviewers called it "cancer," another said "not even satan himself is evil enough to let people read this," and the third called Derek's Christian scholarship into question: "I only read the first story, and I can tell you that Jesus did not go to parties." Hey, I've seen a pic of that rockin' last seder, beyotch.

Hard to see, but in the lower right corner, the cover says "Unabridged."

One Cool Cat book missing from Amazon's Kindle collection is 2007's Cool Cat Loves Biodiesel. He used Willie Nelson's name in the text and a cartoon image of Willie on the soft cover edition, which may have had repercussions if Willie hadn't signed a release. It was previously titled Cool Cat Loves Alt Fuel. On Kindle is Cool Cat Goes Green, with no sign of Willie.

The People AI site has a page on our busy publisher (link) and with the genius of 21st century technology, it proclaims:

Swear to god I looked there but I guess I screwed something up. It's $54 though, and they still have the gall to charge for shipping. I've just gotta justify to myself a fifty dollar purchase that amounts to a joke at the expense of the Cool Cat guy. (If I get it I wanted to post about it here on the Farms.)

I found on every platform that searching for "Derek Savage" OR searching for a book title brought up what would turn out to be incomplete results. I'd go to another site, find a reference back to where I'd been, and get a hit that I hadn't gotten before. If I go back out to a direct search for my new "find," I often get a server error even though I can still get to it through a back link. Part of it is a lot of the info's old and sites have been re-done, but part of it is probably that Derek is cursed.

Strategy 1: AbeBooks (which lists it as Hell's Nightware) shows the actual seller: Robinson Street Books, IOBA (Binghamton, NY, U.S.A.), (607) 217-4328. They open at 10 on Monday. Why not give them a call - do it by voice - and make them an offer, saying you think the book looks interesting but you can't pay that much for it. They may take your offer or counter.

If they say no, call again in a few months if the book is still on Abe or their own site. Don't tell them they've got the second word in the title misspelled since that may hide the book from other buyers. They don't have in-store shopping, apparently, so you're likely to be the only potential buyer. They may get tired of hanging onto it and give you a better price. Their site shows sales with 20%-30% off in January and August 2022, so now and then they really want to reduce stock.

Their site's "about" page, by the way, says shipping on orders of $50 or more is free, so if you buy at the current price, point that out.

Strategy 2: Haunt eBay and Abe waiting for another copy to turn up under one of its titles.

Strategy 3: Email Derek and ask if he has a copy you can buy.

Strategy 4: Go over to the Cool Cat Wiki fandom and ask if anybody's got a copy of the book. You could even update their shitty page on the Kiwi Farms. Also post on r/YMS, r/Sardonicast, and any other subs with fairly recent Derek threads because, yes, getting this book is now your Life.

Strat---- Ok. I think I need a doughnut.

Definitely post here about the book. Maybe write a book about getting the book. Your book may turn out to be longer than Derek's book.

Wouldn't it being used in the Cool Cat movie be a detriment to it being sold? It's certainly not a draw.

"Who Killed Captain Alex" is an amazing movie and I will fight anybody who says otherwise.

Just watch. Half the anti-cool cat YouTube start praising cool cat for being pro tranny. Probably starting with Bobsheaux thanks to his cam-whore fat girlfriend who wants to outlaw meat eating.
That woman is salty af. I never fully understood what bobsheaux saw in her, i guess he was THAT desperate or something

Is creepy as fuck how Derek roleplays as his own furry oc/son
She clearly using him to push her failing phone sex business. All her site died out. She even ruined his livestreams by forbidding bobsheaux from doing Donald Trump impression his fans like.
Yeah, she is kind of a leeching him for his really small fame and spread her conent

That movie is what a true and passionate masterpiece looks like, proves that you can make a good movie with almost 0 budget, maybe derek should learn one or two things from those guys

Don't forget that it included outstanding covers of Seal's "Kiss from a Rose" (from the Batman Forever soundtrack) and "Mamma Mia" from ABBA, respectively played on panpipes and piano
