Pence started out much stronger, with Kaine interrupting constantly. Pence fumbled as it went on and completely flopped when it came to his religion.

Pence is quite lucky they didn't cover his views on conversion therapy, but he still managed to embarrass himself tremendously on abortion and adoption (remember, this is the guy who says gays shouldn't be able to adopt kids).

8chan had a field day with the VP debate and produced some nice smug pence memes. Only saved one sadly.

On topic, I hate to admit I didn't watch the debate but dear lord I wish Kaine would stop interrupting. I think the only reason Hillary picked Tim was to secure VA. Because VA votes blue now for some reason.

Virginia is often considered something of a minor swing state. It is perhaps the only real wild card in the South and has a reputation for being kind of split between Northern liberalism and Southern conservatism. It is not unheard of for it sink either party's campaign.
 
There are two main takeaways from the Vice Presidential debates.

One is that Kaine came off overly aggressive and seemed too eager to get in his memorized talking points.

The other is that Pence happily and calmly defended a version of his running mate that doesn’t exist. In Pence’s telling, Trump would be tough on Putin, would never support prosecuting women for having abortions, uses his family charity solely for charitable purposes, etc. And when called on these discrepancies, Pence simply said that Trump isn’t a polished candidate who sometimes says things he doesn’t mean.

For example Pence claimed they're not running an insult-based campaign while Trump was literally insulting Kaine on twitter during the debate

You know the moderators really should do a better job of hiding their bias. It only proves Trump's narrative of the media being against him. Or my tin foil hat is getting too tight, either one could be true.

Not to put you on the spot but why should Trump or even Hillary for that matter be tough on Putin? Russia is a pseudo authoritarian regime with a collapsing economy and an incredibly outdated military. I've never heard a decent rationale from a Democrat on why we should be itching for a pointless conflict with Russia other than "they're evil!" With Militant Islam on the march and China being incredibly aggressive I can't fathom why the official stance of the Democratic party is that Russia is our biggest geopolitical foe.

I wasn't commenting on the actual policy position, Kaine said that Trump has praised Putin, Pence denied this despite overwhelming evidence to the contrary.

It was basically Kaine going "Your candidate said X" and Pence going "Nuh, uh he never said X" despite multiple instances of Trump saying X

To be fair, I don't think anyone on earth could successfully defend trump.
