Steam Next Fest, Feb. 2024 - An in-depth look at the Steam demos of this year

Steam finally released the 50 most played demos of the event. I'll give a QRD to wrap up this thread.

Sadly, the gay Pacific Drive demo was the third most played demo. Lots and lots of RTS games, farming/survival games, story games, and other genres I don't like made it to the top. Dead Dawn, Millennia, Rotwood, which I thought was mediocre, were in the top 10. Star Trucker was in the top 20 right below Lightyear Frontier, the worst game of all time.

Further down we have Abiotic Factor, Children of the Sun (Devolver Digital's new game), Indika (unfortunately), Realm of Ink, Mullet Mad Jack, MANIAC, Diceomancer, Biogun, Ultros, and Pepper Grinder.

Care to spare your thoughts on this, everyone?

Unless I'm drawing a blank, wasn't the Pacific demo omitting the gay shit on purpose? They would have definitely dropped considerably through word of mouth just by the fact that 22 uwu queer options are available from the start while everything else is RNG.

No, I think people actually liked the demo. @Asian tech support, who played it, said it was good and I don't think he was even aware of the pride flags. The developer is a disgusting shitlib, but even disgusting shitlibs are capable of making a good game.

Nothing surprising. I'm glad Realm of Ink saw play and I'd bet money that Backpack Battles was only as popular as it was because of the anime catgirl on the thumbnail.

In the demo, the only car parts you could craft were the most basic parts, which omitted any form of cosmetic customization. I tried to see as much as I could of the demo as I thought it was solid for what it was but there wasn't a trace of gay anything. It's hard to say if that's why they chose not to include it but it's easy to see it that way.

going by most played is a pointless metric, same as "top seller" etc. if you're not part of the mainstream audience none of it will be of any use or reflect what you played.
it's marketing really, not a mark of quality.

I just wanted to compare what caught Kiwi Farm's eye to what the average Steam user enjoyed.

If the lunacid troondev is any indicator those flags were hidden on purpose to own the heckin chuderinos by surprising purchasers with the degeneracy by the time it was too late to refund automatically.
