I remember Null once saying something to the effect that Lowtax and Moot went wrong once they started to lose the pulse of the everyday user experience. Stickers are too minor to doompost about, but Null clearly didn't understand how a sizeable portion of the userbase uses the website. Now he knows but he's too stubborn to let it go. He'll have it be a trail period to see how the forum is without the notifications and if everyone has gotten tired of bitching he'll say "Told you it wasn't so bad, you big babies" or if people keep complaining, he'll acquiesce and say something like "Fine, the mongoloid masses have won. Everyone gets stickers back and here's some confetti you drooling retards."

Null acts like running this place is a nonstop stressor, and in fairness to him it probably is, but it'd probably be a little bit easier if he just left well enough alone on something stupid like this instead of having a spergout over people enjoying the UX in a way he doesn't approve of.

The DM chain stuff I get, that can quickly snowball in to a bigger problem, but people using the reaction notifs as an easier way to keep up to date with threads they're posting in? I really don't see how that's a substantially detrimental development, especially when it helps drive engagement and makes the fourum easier to use on mobile.

I'm fairly certain I read that I read in one of Josh' posts this was one of the reasons the chain DM's were popular before people started making them just for generating kahntent. The former is an issue, the latter is just mild trolling. I'll try to find the post.

I guess I can make a distinction for the hugbox DMs that popped up (like couple of /pol/fag hugbox DMs). Those basically exist out of butthurt over people disagreeing with the group consensus and is generally an argument for removing reaction score and sticker notifs anyway.

The mass DMs though were basically giant shitposts. I think some of the earliest were born from inviting a bunch of people to some faggot's butthurt DM, and it kind of became a unique culture from there.The subsequent ones that were created to be mass DMs were usually continuing the legacy of a previous one that got deleted for some reason. Some evolved into drama hubs, some evolved into conversation hubs, but in general, they were shitposts and no one was really thinking about stickers.

I think a few people threw out the no reaction score thing as a theory as to why they're popular with some users, but to be honest, I think it's just because the guys who took part in them tended to be fun users.
