I will derail the thread a little but, although at this point I'm starting to think that what I'm about to mention is absolutely appropriate for this thread.
Every year around this time of year I want to cry about March 16 in Latvia, but barely anyone takes it seriously, because muh freedomz, russia ebil hurr durr soviet occupiers. Coming to the
literal Nazi parade and saying something about against Hitler or the Latvian SS legion itself will get you detained.
Commemorating Soviet soldiers on the other hand is sus by their standards Sorry I forgot they removed the monument from Victory Park and also detain and even blatantly arrest everyone who tries to bring flowers to pay respects for Soviets. Not gonna lie, it is morbidly entertaining to watch these people do things that they condemn Russia for.
Guess who joined the parade last year. Ukrainian refugees.

Wikipedia page covers the day pretty much accurately, and that's what truly blows my mind. Things are stated as they are, and yet, people collectively are unable to register this information whenever you call it out. If you go to the talk section, you'll see the massive amount of "well akshully tekhnikally they weren't Nazis" cope. Literally the same logic that far-gone Ukrainians use to claim there's no Nazis among them and if you come up with an example, you've falled victim to Russian propaganda.
Very interesting definitions of "freedom" among post-Soviets indeed.
