What's the deal with Larian Studios?

Well, maybe not Larian entirely -though I haven’t played any of the other titles, like Divinity, to know if it’s the whole studio and not just the game-but Baldur‘s Gate 3 has a fair bit of DEI. I’ll try to make a list of everything for the OP when I’m feeling better but it includes hermaphroditism and a vitiligo slider in the character creator. I don’t know everything story-wise since I haven’t beaten it . I’m not really a pearl-clutcher over same-sex relationships in games as long as it doesn’t affect the story negatively, like being shoehorned in or retconning established canon for example, but that’s in there. One of their employees also got involved in the recent Sweet Baby Inc controversy, on the side of SBI

Divinity Original Sin 2 is mild in my opinion. In the hundreds of hours I've played, I don't recall seeing any character or mob that could be identified as trans or non-binary, moreover, the character creation menu doesn't mention pronouns and the sex is identified via the usual sex symbols (,). As far as gay characters are concerned, there are only the sex workers in Driftwood who will fuck with you regardless of your sex, moreover, you can hold a gay relationship with another member of your party if you so choose; there are no sex scenes btw.

Also just wanna hop in and suggest that when you’re examining whether a character is “queer”, if it isn’t apparent in game or developers don’t explicitly confirm it, use extra scrutiny. Trannies love to take any small, unrelated detail as an excuse to say a character is actually queer coded and was trans all along. Duke Nukem likes boobies? Actually, that’s his repressed desire to have top surgery, chud bigot. I’m going through my wishlist and realized some games are tagged LGBTQ+, but after one second of research I saw that the reasoning is exactly like the nonsense above so I figured I’d share

Escape From Tarkov is none. Female and non-white PMCs/enemies are not present in the game (takes place in a Russian city afterall), and Battlestate Games made it clear that they won't add in-game females (that are not Traders) because it doesn't make sense for the lore, and that “a women can’t handle that amount of stress.”

ArmA 3: None
There are no female player models by default. Women literally do not exist in the game universe, there's no homosexuals (despite being a military game!) and there's no trannies.
ArmA 3 Modding Community: Heavy
The community is filled with trannies and IP trannies to the point that the official Discord has an IP rights violation channel. Admin jannie Trannies go out of their way to crawl the workshop and report ripped assets in unlisted mods. There's based mods but they usually get removed immediately by the janny trannies. Tranny shit is so common there was a mod made that removed the trans pride flags from the popular NIArms mod. NIArms is made by a troon, naturally.

Retro 1960s Britain. Everybody is White except for one half pajeeta whose father was a colonial general and who is also a villain character. Only men are policemen, blue collar workers, basically only men are seen doing men’s jobs. There are only two gay characters and they’re walking gay jokes that wear fruity sailor suits. A female character is portrayed as a maneater. She’s a scientist while also being portrayed as a girly girl fashionista/sex symbol and that contrast is played both for laughs and for drama.


Not for Broadcast has a gender neutral named protagonist and some gay couples, but it also portrays some of those gays as really fruity. The story has jokes that are kind of pro-lockdown and what not, but on the whole the story has beats that seem to be subtly anti-Globohomo, like the villains being radical socialists corrupting a democracy, the villains promoting antinatalist propaganda through a troupe of gay performers, Not-Alex Jones being right, Not-Kanye being right, and the villains murdering old people through Canadian style medical euthanasia.

Conclusion:

Speaking of which. Resident Evil 4 (None) Resident Evil 4 VR (medium) and Resident Evil 4 Remake (mild/medium).

The original RE4 was 20 years ago. RE4 VR cut any scenes with sarcasm or flirting including the entire post credits scene, and made your hands disappear if you move them close to Ashley. Resident Evil 4 Remake cut a lot of content, made characters ugly, and recast a popular character with a diversity hire that can't act.

I looked at a video of the character creation and honorifics seem to work similarly. Even if your portrait is a male, you can have the game address you as ma'am.

It's probably a game limitation due to the sheer amount of character portraits where it's impossible to tell if someone is a man or a woman. It's way easier to just have two selectors instead of changing the available options based on a character portrait that's selected. Furthermore, I seem to recall the selector being there for a while now but maybe I am misremembering due to the fact that it's so inoffensive (IMHO).

That's just my 2 cents, though.

Aldo, do note that a "recent" update for Starsector might be a year old due to the game's glacial as fuck development time

Take the single troon character. A merchant asks you to recover a magic healing plant (and her brain addled husband). Once you've somehow got through a web of explosive mushrooms with a chain reaction, you have the option of healing her detested husband or giving it to her to sell. The secret third option is to feed it unprompted to a certain party member, who then remembers she knew a certain boy in her brainwashing shadow cult far away. Late in the game, you reach her cult and if she has the memory. After slaughtering(or coopting) the cult, you can enter one of many back rooms and find the grown up boy who said they are magically a woman now (and still part of the evil cult).

That's hardly interfering with your experience.

Interference shouldn't be a metric by which the wokeness of something is judged, it's arbitrary criteria. "Is the game woke" and "if so, to what degree" seems to be the purpose of the thread. How much it interferes in your experience is a separate issue, and is a lot more debatable.

I've seen people use similar logic to argue Street Fighter 6 isn't woke, but it obviously is. We can add that to the list too, actually.
