It's not them being content with a sedated lifestyle
I dunno, even without all the other stuff you mentioned, I think there is a certain level of bugman consoomer where, even if you're not really hurting anyone, it's still worthy of contempt. I'm not saying you have to travel the world and experience everything it has to offer, but if you're physically and financially able yet choose to exist like Garfield --eat, sleep, consoom, repeat-- you may as well be dead already imo.

Maybe that's just me, though, but I genuinely believe touch grass is more than a meme. 99% of the social issues we're currently dealing with would be solved in a matter of months if people would just go the fuck outside and stop living in a 24:7 feedback loop of misery and confirmation bias.

Well yeah, go outside. Talk to your neighbors. Have friends (online and/or IRL) who you don't agree with everything about. It's not that casual lifestyle that's the issue. But someone deciding they're happy where they are, who they know, what they do, that's a good thing. In fact, we both would wager good money that Peetz, Moviebob, and Jim Sterling are NOT happy with ANY of that and replace it with consoomerism.

I guess it says more to my bias that having and doing that kind of stuff was a given.

Yeah, I think that's the distinction I was trying to make. There's a world of difference between being content with your lot, even if it's not ideally what you wanted, and drifting through life like a ghost; completely passive to the world around you except for the occasional screaming matches you have with the void.

I'll give some credit, he's still able to surprise me. I absolutely did not expect a live service rant this week given all the far more pertinent stories in the news (the Insomniac layoffs were perfect for one of Jim's copy-paste rants).

It really is beyond me how he decides what the JQ is going to be about, now. He must be using the South Park headless chicken method.
Its very much noticeable how he seems to regularly miss or avoid very important stories that you think would be right up his alley to do with questionable goings on by big game companies that screw over both players and developers. Like here's a few topics that are currently relevant he could, or should, cover now:

-Yuzu being shut down, there's a lot to say about Nintendo's furious war on emulators alongside their lack of interest in actually making their old library easy to play.
-Warner Bros completely fucking over a massive slew of indie developers by destroying Adult Swim games, this really pissed me off this week and solidifies Warner Bros as probably the worst major media company currently in operation, alongside all of the other tax write off shit they have been doing.
-You don't even have to stop there to shit on Warner Bros, since they had that ridiculous statement that the AAA market is 'Too volatile' (ie, Suicide Squad was an unholy abomination and nobody bought it, its the players fault for not buying their terrible games), and that they were going to focus on exploitable mobile games and try and turn the Hogwarts Legacy sequel into another GaaS nightmare, just make a whole special on everything WB games have been doing wrong and you'll have enough content for 10 Jimquisitions.
-Embracer group essentially ransacking a major chunk of the European videogame industry because a hairbrained scheme to pile up a massive amount of debt to buy up a bunch of studios and IPs didn't work out when the Saudi investor group they were trying to court pulled out, its one of the worst instances of corporate malpractice I've ever seen in the videogame industry and also really pisses me off.
-As you say, massive lay offs across the industry, even in major studios that seem successful on paper like Insomniac, you could say a lot about the fundamentally unsustainable AAA model especially with the revelations of how much of a bloated monster budgets have gotten for things like Spiderman or Grand Theft Auto, and how this process is recreating a lot of the problems in the videogame space we have seen in the movie industry for years.
-Failing all of these things he could just make a relatively easy and funny video on the latest overblown mess everybody loves to shit on like Suicide Squad or Skull and Bones, but I think some of his recent videos have been about that already.

Now in fairness to Jim, maybe he'll surprise me and he has a video about one of those topics in the works, but its just ridiculous how much he misses talking about the kinds of topics that he has said are the important things he wants to cover as a major crusader for the little guys in the videogame industry which seems to be going in a progressively worse and worse direction. Its just amazing how much he does not justify the runtime of his own videos since he doesn't talk about interesting or relevant topics enough. At least Skill Up or someone has a rundown of major weekly news like this and hits upon these points regularly as a result.

Its the boring usual stuff not worth a watch, but he rags on the term "AAA" a lot about how it has no meaning and shitting on what modern AAA games are.
Jimquisition ('Why Crazy Taxi Needs To Shut Up And Pacific Drive', 86k views)
That title sounds like it has nothing to do with what he's talking about. I may be out of the loop but what does Crazy Taxi have to do with AAAA? If the answer is nothing, then it might explain why its such a badly-performing video.

I wonder if he's self-aware enough to understand that he is incapable of saying anything new, interesting or informative about those topics. His stances are painted in such broad strokes that he would've said the same things about each company / issue even if the incidents you referred to didn't even happen. For such a well known (certainly well-earning) member of the games press, his industry insight seems to be limited to hurling petty insults, complaining about CAPITALISM and making unfunny lewd jokes about any and every topic.

Ubisoft said their new Crazy Taxi game will have "AAA production value" or something along those lines.

Ok I watched through a few minutes of it. I understand what he was trying to say and why the video performed so badly.

He's complaining about a Eurogamer article mentioning how SEGA said in an interview that the new Crazy Taxi game will have AAA scope. He says he wants to use the article as a pretense to talk about the meaningless-ness of AAA as a term. He also wants to highlight how good another driving game is, a recently released one called Pacific Drive (game's legit, I've seen a review and it looks like it slaps). And I didn't watch the rest.

The first minutes of the video are a tangent / reference to some old fantasy TV show that I neither got nor see the relevance of. Skipped over it and I think that's what lost him most of his viewers on the vid.

He wanted to praise an actually good game (Pacific Drive) but for some inexplicable reason wrapped it up in his bitterness about AAA/A and fucking weird tangents.

New JQ has dropped:
I only made it a minute in, but I can already see Jim is scraping the barrel on this one. The image that is the entire impetus for the video is either a troll job, or something made by a particularly delusional A.I. 'artist'.

The majority of people continue to see A.I. art as the dumb fun it is, Jim continues to tilt at windmills. See you all next week.

I challenge Jim and his transfolx fwends to try cracking the "hidden" watermark an image generator like Microsoft Bing's adds.

If stealing AI artwork is morally acceptable Jim, then you won't mind it when the next AAA game has stolen AI artwork in it rather than human artists original works right? Its almost as if he didn't think through the impact this statement has on the Videogames Industry. But foresight is not a troons strongpoint.

So out of all the stuff going on that he could cover he covers this, stay winning jumbo YWNBAW.

He said it was his editor/producer/whatever who brought it to his attention, so I suspect Jim pays zero attention to game news any more and chooses the JQ topic based on whatever gets passed his way on any given week.

It would certainly explain why he is rarely, if ever, on topic.

On the face of it I can believe that, but the problem right under the surface would be social media. With the circles he's engaged with, there's no way he's got a feed full of anything other than industry seething over the latest things.
