Make sure to clear all cookies before you start using your new identity, or better use a different web browser for Anonymous than for your other activities.
If you have higher needs for security, ask us about encryption, stenography, TOR, etc. Many of us know how to use them. We will always respect your need for privacy. We will never ask for your personal information. If we do, we will not expect a truthful answer; And neither should you.

What is the right thing to do?

To be sincere back to a sincere question, it wouldn’t bother me one bit if the change were reverted, it doesn’t bother me now. It’s changed nothing for me, but as this isn’t about me, & the site in general, there’s nothing to concede. I think this thread shows something endemic to more than this site, a cultural attitude of entitlement. I think they won’t change back as it’s clearly not about the notifications anymore, but become a big butthurt for a handful of users. The upset ITT is over the top, so the only useful solution is to have some fun with it.

The dumbest shit in this thread, other than the null-riders returning (or initially posting), is the people talking shit about dopamine AS IF DOPAMINE HITS WERE A NEGATIVE.

It's a simple equation that most social media has figured out: dopamine = engagement. The topic has come up in this thread, and Null has mentioned it on MatI like when youtube disabled thumbs down. Engagement doesn't mean thumbs-up- it means thumbs up or down, or reposting, caring enough to post a reply (or post a comment). You want the dopamine hits to be slick, without friction.

Where social media has lost the message is introducing algo's to filter out content, or worse, add-in "suggested content". To date, that's not been an issue on the Farms. (I don't know Xenforo has this, haven't seen it in the wild.)

However over here, for mega users, I'm sure including most of the mods and dear ooperatoor, what would be a good use of AI is summarizers. If you're getting a hundred or a thousand stickers a day, your experience is vastly on the right side of the bell curve as compared to the bulk of the user base. A summary, "This post got 20 good stickers, 5 negative." is much more useful than 25 individual lines of reactions, intermixed between 15 different topics. On the flip side, getting a few stickers when you just jumped into The Farms is a great way to immediately feel like you're part of the community, as Null mentioned in his original thinking on turning on sticker notifs by default. Even if you do get a few replies of, "Hey retard, thumbnail your images!", the stickers counterbalance that.

Now, Null is doing some live social engineering, apparently largely because of whiners clogging up the report queue. By doing that, by changing the notifications on stickers to off for all made the system have more friction. This is bad for user experience, and likely for 70%+ of the user base.

Should it be a feature that is defaulted to off? I don't care about the default, if the users are given a choice. Denying users that choice is shit.

If there is a limited pool of people complaining about stickers (and I'd be curious how many UNIQUE complainants there are about stickers, rather than reports or misbehaving suspensions, which apparently was over 100 in active)- maybe that select subset of complainers should be denied notifications. Perhaps Xenforo can't do that by a defined user group. If that's the case, it seems like that's another reason to be serious about pursuing sneedforo.

The big issue is this is a rash solution that was never going to work to a problem that will never be fixed that inconveniences over 70% of the site. Users have discussed this for 100 pages noting varied grievances and experiences, yet people pop in and use reductive language like "dopamine addicts" despite well-articulated, well-reasoned critique. People understandably get mad, and then retards are doing "call outs", "getting their licks in" and attempting public martyrdom to further piss him off.

It stopped being funny and has moved into becoming actively divisive. It's Josh's website, but nobody enjoys being inconvenienced with no upside other than the site administrator refusing to back down. The core of it is this doesn't solve what it was meant to solve and now more than ever, it's looking like spite is ruling decision making on the webzone.

The people doing that stuff are using the same tactics the commie types used to take over Something Awful, just an fyi.

And as for making the sticker notifications optional, this is another issue. This site is full of spergs. Ask Null how many times he had to add someone to someone's ignore list because they were so assmad about them, only for them to manually go into their ignore settings to unignore that user to keep seething at them. So if that was left as is, you'd have retards from A&H seething that HHH gave them a MATI sticker because they'd get an instant notification about it and they'd be too retarded to just disable those and stop caring. And if a mod disabled that for them they'd reenable it. Null chose the nuclear option, but the lesser of two evils becuase he could've nuked the DM functionality altogether.
