Not surprising since they did the same thing to Streets Of Rage Remake.... and THAT one was all over a fucking MOBILE game sega was going to release of SOR.

Sincere question.

Why didn't Sega ever reprint Master System games for the Game Gear? I've read they're just about the same hardware. I am shocked they didn't mass-reprint older MS titles as budgetware or something to keep the Game Gear filled with games and give a new lease on older 8-bit titles.

The Sonic Master System games suffered on GameGear due to the resolution shrinkage. In fact, many platformers became harder because of it because you needed much more PRECISE reaction times in order to handle the shit that would suddenly come at you.

GameGear was a neat idea, but i would rather squint at the GameBoy screen and it's tiny pixels instead of getting suprised buttsex'd by every enemy on the GameGear

Yeah, you really needed a properly designed game to make the best of the Game Gear. Two of my favorite examples are the GG Shinobi games. Very well-designed for the platform. You don't end up with the Sonic buttsex problem.

But Sonic is a bad game to begin with. "Going fast" is so empty when it means your reaction times have to be in frames. Games where you literally can't see what you're doing are bad games.

Well if you mean literally reprint the same cartridges, they wouldn't fit, they're not the same size. The GG did get some low effort SMS ports like the Sonic games, but they cut off part of the screen because of the resolution differences.

I tried putting some GG roms on a Genesis flash cart and they kinda sorta work... they usually load but the graphics are messed up.

Sonic doesn't go all that fast in the Master System games, because it didn't have a Blast Processor. You can pretty much see where you're going, if you're not playing the GG versions.

The GG Shinobi games are pretty great... much better than Cyber Shinobi on SMS. But possibly not better than Alex Kidd in Shinobi World. GG Alien Syndrome is pretty good too.

Thank you for the knowledge guys, I didn't know any of those details!

I was imagining a what-if/alternate history where Sega's main systems were given as much boosting or quality as possible - the idea of Master System imports to the Game Gear was an idea, so was the 32X never being made and all its would-be games being shifted to the Saturn as launch or early titles. Yet it's because of those boosts that Sega crashes on schedule because it's still spending too much (even if in a better way to gamers), though the "main" 8-bit and 32-bit systems (GG and Saturn) would thus be as well-beloved/remembered as the Genesis/Mega Drive and Dreamcast are in reality. Basically Sega's console era going out in an even brighter flash with every system (at least almost) remembered as an amazing console.
