alan wake 2 had huge inertia by fans of the first game, with remedy so far having the track record that you could buy their games blind (if you liked their games of course, ymmv). it also had a big-ass marketing push during a timeframe where not much else released. we'll see if it becomes a "classic" like the first game over time, but I doubt it. insofar it's "successful" the same way TLJ - or maybe TFA - were.

Incidentally Alyx as a character in HL2 is a perfect example of how you can have a mixed-race character who isn't a total stereotype and is actually useful.
