About Dr Zukowski
A Master Craftsman for the Gender Community
Dr. Zukowski has been working with the international gender community for 23 years as of 2020. People in transition typically account for approximately 70-80% of his patients each year, the remainder being cis male and female patients seeking various
cosmetic surgery procedures. He is a steadfast ally to the LGBTQ community and has entered a float in the
Chicago Pride Parade for multiple years.
In the words of Dr. Z: “This isn’t your grandpa’s feminization surgery.”
Through 23 years of helping people transition (as of 2020), Dr. Zukowski has always been at the cutting edge of surgical innovation. He is one of the earliest adopters of endoscopic minimal scar facial feminization. Even today, many cosmetic surgeons don’t practice endoscopic techniques due to the difficulty of mastering them and the extra time and care needed to perform them.
Dr. Zukowski is a staunch proponent of endoscopic techniques because they are safer, minimally invasive, and leave less collateral damage. They are highly versatile and applicable, even to the Type 3 forehead. As of 2020, he has been exclusively using this technique in all Type 3 foreheads for 23 years. The end result is less risk, less bruising, and a quicker recovery. Due to his care, skill, and finesse, Dr. Zukowski likes to think of himself as a sculptor rather than a carpenter. He likes to assure his patients: “I build beauty and I do not use cookie cutter techniques.”
Dr. Zukowski is a native of Upstate NY and graduated with a B.S. in Biochemistry from Union College in Schenectady, NY. He graduated from Northwestern University Medical School in Chicago, IL and completed his prerequisite three years of General Surgery training, followed by three years of Plastic Surgery training also at Northwestern Memorial Hospital in Chicago, IL, one of the top medical institutions in the world. He has trained with the top cosmetic plastic surgeons in Chicago, the nation, and the world.
After graduating, Dr. Zukowski performed his military scholarship obligation to the US Navy, achieving the rank of Commander (O5). He served as Plastic Surgery Department Head at Naval Medical Center Portsmouth, Virginia, for four and a half years and ran one of the busiest plastic surgery departments in the world. He has trained residents in the fields of Plastic Surgery, Oral and Maxillofacial surgery, and ENT surgery in the Navy, Army, and Air Force branches.
He is a book chapter author in one of the first definitive worldwide textbooks on Endoscopic Plastic Surgery. Together with a colleague, he performed the world’s first series of endoscopic craniofacial procedures in 1994. This technique is the current standard of care in newborn infants with skull deformities. He is also the author of over 30 articles and book chapters on various plastic surgery topics, and has won numerous presentation awards. See articles authored by Dr. Zukowski
