These games get by with a small budget or a tiny budget because the teams making them are lean operations. Atelier Ryza selling a few hundred thousand copies is a great success because it's made by a handful of people in a limited amount of time with a sane scope attached to the project. They didn't waste money on gay consulting firms to tell them "women aren't allowed to look attractive anymore."Eventually it will crawl into AA and even Indie games if it hasn't already. Avoiding Triple A games only does so much when it's not being addressed or only scumbags like YongYea pretend to cry about lootboxes and live services.
These games get by just fine on selling games the old fashioned way because they are made the old fashioned way.
