How?

This feels like entitlement. I understand wanting the story to be finished, but you're taking it too far, it almost sounds like you think he owed his audience a more productive content output. That's nonsense.

And it was warranted. GAGA may have replicated his style to an acceptable degree, but they've failed to understand Berserk. Even his best friend Mori doesn't understand it.

Like, holy shit.

Has there ever been a popular franchise like Berserk where the vast majority of the people who read it and those associated with it don't even get it?
Well back to what I said about Yoshihiro Togashi, I respect that he told his fans he was basically done with it. It would have been perfectly fine if Miura had told his fans to piss off while he goes to Okinawa and played Idolm@ster on a beach. Piddling around and doing nothing for 5 years is just kind of unnecessarily frustrating though.

Biologically it's incest, and it's creepy as fuck no matter how you look at it. So they have grown like "brother and sister" for 16 years and this doesn't generate a core sense of "what the hell am I thinking" in Ruby and who the hell knows what is happening in Aqua's head right now, probably another "All according to keikaku" heel turn. This isn't "we are adopted siblings and in a similar age range and relatively old when it happened" which is the only context where I see incest relations as not something completely degenerate. This one is 100% aiming for biological incest, at least as far as Ruby's concerned.

True, I guess where I was attempting to go with my comment is: There's Incest Manga and then there's Incest Manga where in one of them you could have something like this that's likely going to play out with Aqua rejecting his Sister, and telling her to get her fucking head on straight and its one really fucked up plot point.

And then there's manga where incest is the entire point. People seem to be treating it like its the latter, and I've just got a gut feeling its the former.

Probably, though I think it will depend on the feedback they get. A lot of negative? Aqua will stop it and rebound into the most popular of the girls. A lot of positive? Their FORBIDDEN LOVE will suddenly become the endgame. Basically, I'm pretty sure they are just winging at this point.

We'll have to agree to disagree on that point. I think with the exception of the supernatural element which again has been totally pointless, the direction of the manga hasn't felt particularly ass-pully to me.

That said, we're about to watch a small shitty country get taken over by a dude called Barbeque. You never know what kinda crazy shit can happen these days

I watched Elfin Lied. My reaction:

Most of it I couldn't take seriously. The violence was beyond ridiculous and into comedy. I can't even really describe the plot other than they want to kill Lucy and this dumbass can't see she's a schizophenic psycho that killed his dad and sister, and for the sake of the plot he just... blacked it out lol.

Lucy's backstory was probably the best part, in that I actually felt bad and didn't just laugh like most of the rest of the show. Overall though, it's a mess. Basically Caps off the end of the edgy OVA era. It stumbles a lot, I won't say it's great, but it's not terrible. It reminds me of a B movie horror plot.
I bingeread the entire manga over a weekend in college. Did you that the character who gives the series its name was left out of the anime because the director didn't like her? I wonder if it was because she was introduced wearing a diaper.

No I did not. Half the show was nigh incomprehensible and only kept me there because of the high impact violence, and the other, second half did make sense, but by then it was clear they were doing a anime original ending because the manga apparently ended a year after it aired. I didn't think about the name honestly other than Japan likes Christian sounding names because it's exotic

The Four Deva in Gintama is yet another kino moment in the series. Having a lot of past characters show up to help makes me grin like a madman. Also they say tranny like a dozen times, it's great.
I stand by the idea that the Four Devas is probably the greatest arc in anime history. The only thing that comes close for me is another arc in the series you'll get to eventually.

I overall like NHK more but I kinda see watomote as more normies/weeb friendly (although I have seen a few anons complain that the more recent chapters or nothing but CGDCT, but I haven't seen past that anime so I don't know where it goes)
NHK is a hard sell and not just because it's a mid 00s gainax show that's visually aged like milk in some places. I'm mainly thinking about some of the jokes like the punchline when sato gets addicted to online porn, to the serious parts, specifically Mikasa's whole motivation to "save" a 22 year old hikikimori.
I think that's being a bit hard.
Welcome to the NHK isn't "supposed" to appeal to everyone. It's kind of like a hidden treasure that will just resonate with people depending on how their lives have gone.
I think it ages better than most pretty much most anime that's tackled it's themes, specifically because there isn't some magical "out" that Sato gets. There isn't some isekai element or wish fulfillment. It's just a really bleak, honest look at life that isn't really done in anime anymore. I go back to it every couple of years and it resonates with me a little more each time. I think it's honestly the type of show more people SHOULD watch right now, especially considering the rise of the NEET, consumer culture and internet escapism it tackled almost two decades ago are way more prevalent now.
I don't think the animation has aged that bad. Yeah, it's nothing crazy but I kind of miss the simplicity of mid2000s anime style. I feel like everything is a little too polished anymore.
Agree with the others, the music is some of my favorite out there.
I don't know, it just hits me when I think about it because I've seen any other shows that are that brutally real.

We cant talk 00's edge anime and not throw Cross Ange into the mix

Cross Ange is not exactly "edgy". It's flat-out deranged. I am not ashamed to admit that it makes for a great watch if you want to be incredibly entertained, but it's almost a comedy in its shitposting strength.

It's all so .... cartoony that you can't exactly take it seriously as edge. Sure, you have the newb getting bisected and the schoolchildren getting explosives lobbed at them, but at the same time you have the male protag surviving inexplicably a suicide bombing ( the episode previews themselves shitpost on it saying it's through "ninja arts"!) and the main villain being a mind-controlling hentai protagonist getting psychologically crushed when he's told his new waifu isn't a virgin anymore. And how to forgot the dragon episode where they waste a shitton of episode time on a date in reconstructed human buildings in the dragon dimension just because they wanted Ange and Salanwhatever to do cute date things.

It's the same anime where they put the insane effort of a well-written excuse letter in perfect english that you see for a split second while the names on the tombs in Lesbian Alcatraz are randomly typed gibberish.

Ange is not just edge: it has flat-out manic shitposting energy, they knew what they were doing and they had fun doing it.
