Mega Rad Gun Thread

On to another topic, does anyone here have experience with Ruger MkIVs?
Shot a rental one (Mk IV 22/45) at a range. Either it wasn't maintained well or the ammo was dogshit, because it kept jamming every 2 or 3 shots. Plus I couldn't pull back the bolt whenever I took out the magazine to clear the jam unless that's a feature of the Mark IV 22/45 series, for some reason. Needless to say it was a frustrating experience.

As for good 22lr pistols, I'd suggest a revolver for reliable ignition but you can't suppress them as easily, so those are probably off the table.

What other .22 pistols are good to get?
I want a backpack pistol with a suppressor that I can murk squirrels, beavers, and porcupines when I'm out and about. The MK series and High Standard look solid as well as being printable(fuck overpaying+$40 FFL charge), but I'm curious to hear what ya'll say.
Also, any cans that don't really have first round pop? I'm looking for the first shot to be quiet as possible
I've heard the S&W .22 pistols are only okay. I'd avoid Walther's P22 lineup. No clue about their PPQ M2 stuff. I'm with you on taking down squirrels or animals of similar size with my pistol. Why shoot porcupines, though?

And @AFAB, I believe the MkIVs have a magazine disconnect but that shouldn't impede bolt travel. Having to get some stuff from Volquartsen to disable the mag disconnect make me less enthusiastic about purchasing one but I'll likely buy one still. If I do I'll post about it. No thanks on .22 LR revolvers.

I'll have to look into those. From my research, there's no clear winner, except maybe a buckmark with a threaded barrel and barrel mounted dot.
I shoot porcupines because they're a $500 vet bill for my dogs, but I don't feel like carrying a rifle and my Glock isn't great for shooting info trees or being quiet

They shoot fine and the single actions usually have good triggers, but they're super fucking loud and really heavy

I have a Ruger SR-22 that I quite like. It weighs almost nothing, has a decent DA/SA trigger, a fixed barrel, and reasonable sights. Threaded barrels are available from Ruger, and swap out with one screw, I think. It's also explicitly rated for dry fire.

Man, who would've known that a decent .22 pistol would be more than a pretty solid P80, shits crazy.
I was against the AA slide kit, but looks like that's probably my best option currently. Maybe I'll come across a private sale for something better, but looks like an AA kit or an MKcarbon /Buckmarque. The Beach Pigeon was too big and not that great, and the Covid22 has a serious sketch factor and is not at all accurate.
Landbos Armory seems to have the best deals on those AA kits, and most seem to have threaded barrels which are usually another $140 addon

look into kel-tec p-17's. High mag capacity, cheap and pretty reliable from my understanding. The kel-tec cp33 is cool too, it holds 33 rounds in the standard flush fitting mag

The Taurux TX22 sucks. It gets loads of praise but Ive broken them, not very accurate, the grip is nice though. Mine never comes out of the safe.

Ruger MkIV rules. Can get new shooters hitting a can, standing, with irons, at 100 yards in no time with one. Stick to standard velocity ammo (CCI Standard is my goto, local shop stocks it) and you'll be splitting cunts hairs in half. Pick the variation that gets your jollies off the most. I went with the 22/45 with the blued bull barrel, but the stainless hunter models look sick.

If you do end up with an AA kit be sure to use HV ammo.
Also run it wet and keep it clean.
They get dry & dirty and you're basically doing a sling shot single shot.
Pay extra attention to the extractor, that gets gummed up it almost quits working.

Sadly I can't easily get those mags where I am, so they're not a super great option for me. The P17 seems alright, but not being 21 puts a damper on guns I can't print or build.

That's my current ammo of choice when I'm doing important stuff, and other than that I'm burning through a case of Federal Auto Match I got a deal on last year. Pretty accurate stuff for what it costs, and being subsonic is pretty nice. Auto Match kinda sucks, and now that Aguila is cheap again I'll probably be switching to that for blasting.

I've got a CMMG AR bolt rocking on a 4.5 barrel I machined, and that fucker does get really dirty within a handful of mags. I just give it some used air compressor oil or some penetrating oil and the grime washes out. Can't really be bothered to strip the thing every couple hundred rounds when the performance is the same if I just keep drenching it.

From what I've heard about the AA Glock kit is that it needs new springs and maybe a new extractor to be decently reliable, on top of lots of stoning and polishing, but that looks like my best option currently.

At the range "cleaning" is basically a field strip and wipe it down, oil it up and go back to shooting.
I do a proper job when I get home.
I've never stoned/polished/re-sprung mine.

Yeah, I should probably take people's issues with a grain of salt, there's some pretty incompetent ones out there.
What's accuracy like on paper with that thing? What trigger and sights are you rocking?

I've got a built G19 size P80 frame, but a 21, 17 or 34 would be no issue to print, seeing as they go for less most places

Sights on mine are just the factory adjustable ones from AA.
Stock trigger, extended Glock slide release and extended mag release.
I don't doubt folks have had issues with these, my example of one has left me satisfied is all I can say.
The AA kit was overwhelmingly recommend over the competing TactSol kit.
Hekk, IIRC TacSol was even making AA compatible magazines for a while.
Accuracy is ok I guess, I've never really shot it past 10 or 15 yards and that is usually just go in blasting, reload, go back to blasting.
Group size seems to drift between fist and open hand.
It's definitely for plinking and not target shooting.
It's made of aluminum so first time you install it and pick it up it doesn't even feel real.
It's so lightweight it's not even funny.
You can get 10/15/25 round mags for them.
You used to be able to find a twin pack of the 10 rounders on ebay really cheap.
But yeah, grain of salt and all that.
Far as I know I found a good drop in the sea of piss flavoured lemonade.

16" Heritage Rough Rider is the only gun you'll need.

Does anyone know when the new blued Colt Pythons are going to actually be released to retailers? I am only seeing a small trickle of them in a few places with high markups. Looked around Colt's site and elsewhere, and couldn't find a straight answer. They debuted at the Shot Show in Jan, and while most of the guns that debuted there are now available everywhere, the Blued Python still isn't.

took about a year or two for them to catch up to demand when the python/anaconda was first put back into production. have patience and prices will become palatable. Every gun i own i bought for a good price by just waiting and not letting my eyes get larger than my wallet.

Advice that I can't agree with enough and applies to a great many things (knives, watches, audio equipment, etc.).
