i think a lot of this is rooted in the 'lose with grace' attitude that boomercons have. they don't want to push back in media because they know it would trigger a massive shrieking tantrum from the libs, and they just want to grill, so they just capitulate and accept defeat because that's more convenient.
Older American conservatives not engaging in a fight for culture and just accepting it as something that is liberal controlled has always been strange to me. It is odd that some treat total left-wing control of institutions and influence in media watched or interacted with by millions of people as some sort of inevitability and "way it has always been" view. You'd think there would be more concern over it rather then acceptance, maybe they just see it as fighting against it as a lost cause. This is despite the fact that leftist dominance in some creative industries means that if someone doesn't go along with whatever the current "progressive" causes of the day are they can be ostracized, jobless or blacklisted altogether.
