That's a good guess, but I'd have to say animals with negative things associated with them and/or strange faces that can't be easily adapted, like pigs and elephants.

Pigs and Elephants are pretty uncommon. Your observation is spot on about the physical qualities of the animals and their popularity in the fandom.

I wonder if that Illumination film "Sing" will change that, given that both types are in it. Or if furries will ignore it since it's not Disney.

You'll see pigs and elephants if you know where to look. Pigs tend to fall under the "slobfur" umbrella (you'll see bears in there a lot too), and I've seen elephants used by some of the hyper muscle types...also female elephants for some 'creative' porn involving the trunk. Bug people are also more common than you'd think; mostly those who want to bang alien bugs, are into oviposition, or who like those spider-centaur things (dryders I think they're called?) and all the various fetishes that can thus be derived.

Really, non-lemur primates and non-shark fish are the rarest - you'd think the merperson fetishists would be all over fish, but nope, just slap a fishtail on something already furry and apparently there's your merperson. Utterly unimaginative.

I'd say the synx things, just because they were created with the purpose of being creepy edgy fetish monsters. Not to be confused with the sergals, despite similar appearances, as that creator is actually trying to build an original world with those.
