Anime/Manga - Discuss Japanese cartoons and comics here; NO CULTURE WAR DOOMPOSTING!

Looking at the calendar on Sonarr there's 25 episodes of Delicious in Dungeon and we are just halfway through. I was mentioning to my partner that based on the manga there's a lot of good stuff coming up and he said "like eating the dragon!"

...

...

Like, does he want spoilers?

is mamayuyu axed or someshit?
Not yet, Two on Ice is probably gonna be the next axe and ruri's leaving the magazine so it'll probably live 1 more round before being axed, unless Shadow Eliminators pulls a U19 which hasn't happened for a little over 2 years now.

Lesbians are seen as immature in Japan and are expected to "graduate" to getting a man, marrying him, and having kids. The purity aspect of yuri is just for the aesthetics and to appeal to the otaku who don't want their bishoujos defiled.

Honestly I am surprised that ruri wasn't axed.

Oh lol couldn't ignore the desire for mature pussy as nature intended. I knew for ages that apparently both Fuuka and its prequel, Suzuka, have gotten the ire of gays/feminists, just never understood what exactly was so controversial about it since I've intentionally avoided spoilers. Haven't been able to get around to it.

Mutsumi Inomata, a famous illustrator and animator, has passed away. Age 63.

Oh I've definitely seen her work around. Think next to Kenichi Sonoda being the precursor to moé, her designs defined the look of the '80s shounen hero.

Pour one out for the queen, she loved her swordmasters. :bluelabel:

As a Tales Of fan, this is fuckin devastating. Losing Toriyama and Inomata in the span of 2 weeks or so is not how I wanted my 2024 to go. I should watch Brain Powerd now. I know she did the art for that series.

I am obligated to say "No, please don't, I beg of you." She only did the character designs and drew some art for it, but the anime is trash, doesn't do her work any favors. Just appreciate the look of it from afar.
I might watch it later once I watch more Tomino anime then. I heard its one of those shows that you either end up fuckin hating or loving and that interests me for some (probably masochistic) reason.

Because for some reason it got stupidly popular. People complain about Kagurabachi being an astroturf but the fact that vol 1 only sold about 20k means it was probably just weebs making a morbius meme
Ruri on the other hand might be unless selling almost 120k then going on a 1.5+ year hiatus seems legit.

ngl its a shame that mamayuyu is getting axed when garage is getting popular. No shade on ruri.

There's been no announcement of it getting axed yet, although I'm a bit behind on the manga so I don't know what going on, all I know about mmyy is that its ranking near the bottom and a few anons think that the author is unhappy with the fact that its not popular and is speedrunning to another pppppp ending.

The whole Jump lineup is pretty shit right now, here's the average rankings for the last 8 weeks if anyone wants to pick it apart, but I'm only reading maybe 3 or 4 series right now

Brain Powerd is super rewarding and satisfying to watch, though. It expects you to put all the pieces together and figure out what's happening yourself; it doesn't spoonfeed anything to you. Because of this the character interactions feel more realistic and engaging. The protagonist is quite likeable -- maybe even moe. I also like how the mecha, which are sentient, behave like animals rather than humans. The show does have some unintentionally funny moments, though, such as the "Orphan has become the 53rd state" scene (but that's mostly due to the music and the absurdity of the American livery). Think of this show as a weirder, fast-paced Turn A Gundam.
