Sweet Baby Inc. and the Steam Curator Group Conspiracy - The company that is responsible for the diarrheic video game writing.

what? wasnt the original team disbanded like 20 years ago?
More like 5 years ago

Allegedly the first try of VtMB:2 was so shit and behind schedule Paradox fired everyone and started over.

Now the second try is allegedly is deep fucking shit

Ugh you'd think a world with that much build in lore and gameplay possibilities would be ripe for 3rd person action adventures games

Same with Shadowrun

These are the guys that made "Dear Esther" and that crap Amnesia sequel that killed the franchise until it was rebooted.
Oh noes, it got killed before it got rebooted?! Did it come back with a black lesbian troony monstuhr? That would be a more horrifying comeback than anybody could've predicted.

Seriously though, I hadn't heard it got rebooted

oh i thought you meant the original team that made the first game in 2004 and went bankrupt shortly after
i just checked and yeah it sounds like this sequel is in development hell

So who here had mainstream media running defense for Sweet Baby Inc on their bingo card?

Canadian public broadcaster CBC on their show "The Current With Matt Galloway" has decided to weigh in and help to further spread the lies of this entire debacle with a whole segment featuring some interviews with those who know the real conspiracy in the gaming world.
https://www.cbc.ca/listen/live-radi...onesty-children-warming-temperatures-changing (Archive)

Yes it is time for the story to go mainstream but given that the CBC knows nothing about gaming they are going to need some help from some "experts". So who is the hard hitting fact finder that will lay down the tale for grandpa in his chair?
Why it's none other than Alyssa Mercante.

That's right. FUCKING KOTAKU ARE OUR EXPERTS FOR THE DAY! :story:
Not only do we have the privilege of reading her slop, we can now hear it straight from the horses mouth.
Enjoy.

We begin with a tale of conspiracy, one that even Elon Musk believes in. Gamers it seems believe that Sweet Baby are trying to radically change the gaming industry. An idea so absurd unless of course you visited their very website and read their mission statement.

Our proud host then follows this up by presenting an audio clip "of one of the many men on youtube" taking about black spiderman. Anyone want to take a guess who that might be?

He then contradicts his entire point by stating that SBI in reality is hired by big gaming corporations thus nullifying the entire argument that SBI couldn't possibly be having an effect on changing the gaming industry. We are then reminded that they worked on writing Miles Morales who is of course black before playing a clip of said work which really highlights the sloppy dialogue at play.

This is of course all very important to know dear listener because the true victim here is Sweet Baby from being harassed by all those ebil tawxic gamer chuds.
This sets the tone for the kind of quality of work we are in for for the next 20 minutes.
Grab your popcorn, Alyssa is about to make her entrance.

In no time flat right out of the gate, IT'S NAAAAWWWWWT TRRRRRRRRUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU! Mater of fact it is SBI who is being harassed!

"Who are the people who are attacking?" "Oh it's very hard to say because they are all anonymous", "but in terms of their actual name and who they are and where they are from it's very difficult to pinpoint"
If you were still on the fence of what her true intentions of entering that discord server was, here she lays it all out. She wanted names for her campaign. She wanted to dox people.
The steam curator is of course brought up as one of those harassers, the one person who realistically did nothing other than curate a steam page.

Most of what is next said is reiterating the same things that she wrote on Kotaku, trying to spin the idea that Sweet Baby aren't doing what people say they are doin, how SBI has no leverage in the gaming space, the works.

"Why is SBI the one out of all of the consulting groups out there the one being targeted?" Well you see it's because gamers are evil racist nazi chuds who hate women and got Trump elected.

"How big is this campaign, do you know how many people are involved?" She brings up the steam group being only about 100,000, then the discord as only being around 5000 people but keeps bringing up the fact that due to anonymity it is hard to say how many there are but bringing forth the conclusion that it is not a lot of people and that it is not as big as people think it is.
Sure that is why you are on the CBC to tell non gaming Canadians how much of a non problem this is.

At around 08:20, Gamergate is mentioned and she goes into the whole spiel how all those heckin wholsomeorino journalists did nothing wrong and were just getting harassment guyz.

Elon Musk is once again brought up at 11:30 and we get to know the real motive behind all this. There is no goal, just harassment.
It's just harassment just harassment. Just like gamergate they just want to harass people. And Steve Bannon used Gamergate tactics in the Trump Whitehouse :lit:

"Can you explain what Gamergate is?" Nothing new here, it just a harassment campaign because gamers hate women.

Around 14:10, "journalism" strikes again. It's all an incubator for the far right.

There is then a segment about what the best solution is and that is to alienate your audience more.
It's really rich to hear how the best way to combat this is for more people to say "we don't like you, we don't want you as our audience".
Rooster Teeth did that, how well did that go for them again?

16:30 onwards is just talking with some blind youtuber from Toronto who advocates for accessibility in games. The only notable thing here is that he has a youtube channel and he too interviewed Alyssa recently.

One thing that I have to note is the fucking irony of both opening and closing this entire story with mentioning another upcoming story about why people lie, and the ethics of lying while having 20 minutes of nothing but lies sandwiched in between. Tremendous. :story::story::story:
Matt you really have upheld the quality standard of journalism we all expect from the CBC. Good job.

Oh noes, it got killed before it got rebooted?! Did it come back with a black lesbian troony monstuhr? That would be a more horrifying comeback than anybody could've predicted.

In order to make life simple, they've decided everyone will be allowed to play as this character and only as this character:
vampire-the-masquerade-bloodlines-2-phyre-character-reveal.jpg
I remember in the old days you could pick your clan or have it chosen for you via a questionnaire, as well as choose your gender. My first playthrough of the old game was as a female Malkavian. Some of the outfits for that character had her walking around half-naked.

But I'm sure everyone will like this character, named Phyre, better. Yes, the character already has a name, so no need to think of one yourself. It's quite convenient.

She really has a funny way of talking, when she knows she's dancing around words to gaslight stuff.. but is it just me?

"I don't know what they think they would do, like the threat would be, because that's just not how that works."
"Again, they're a contractor..."

It seems they're not even relying on auto-translate, but got subs done. I am pretty sure that sounded like "they're our contractors" - 7:45

That was the Free Space.
Was kind of always on the table when it was revealed how governments and institutions are involved with Sweet Baby Inc. and the gaming industry. Quite a few news outlets share the same views they do. In a way compared to Gamergate it seems there are a lot bigger players involved in the background in this situation.

Also, the FF series has always been "queer"

Never played Final Fantasy X-2 but the idea that is "queer" seems contentious since another person made an article stating how hollow some of the elements of the game were. What even makes it queer? Flamboyance?

Excerpts from The “Disasterrific” Femme Representation Of Final Fantasy X-2:
With its unabashed and loving homage to Sailor Moon and the franchise’s first time casting of three female main protagonists, I intuited the joy to be found in 2004’s Final Fantasy X-2 as being closest to queerness as I could ever expect in gaming at that time. As a teenager becoming increasingly strident with their sexuality and androgyny, I was excited for the potential cultural shift the game might signal for predominant heteronorms in the JRPG genre.

But alarm bells rang early: at that point, female leads were all too scarce in the genre and those which were written fairly well (like Lenneth of Valkyrie Profile or Lacryma from the criminally underrated Kartia: Word of Fate) were often stars of underselling or uneven games. Femmes and queer characters still struggle to be positioned in banner roles of big budget games; and portraying their identities in accurate or respectful fashion often gets contentious.
For a game that wants to celebrate the power of female friendship, there is also a curious lack of dynamics between the three leads. Rikku struggles in the endearingly goofy role the developers designed her to be because she’s written as infantile and dim witted; Paine, the game’s token badass, has one of the more intriguing backstories that is so easy to miss, and most of the time she just poses stoically or displays vague disdain at the immaturity around her. Then there’s Yuna: her understated personality yields moments of profound humanity, but she’s never commanding or extroverted enough to convince you that she’d be comfortable masquerading as a pop singer in one sequence, then ambidextrously wielding two guns as default weapons either. These all feel like forced tropes in place of actual writing to convey character development.
Is Final Fantasy X-2 a bad game? No, not entirely. The fact remains that there are a lot of queer-friendly elements to X-2’s design choices; and not to be patronising, but it’s flamboyant enough to probably appeal to a lot of children. For all of its aesthetic contrivances and Rugrats-inspired writing, it boasts creative foundations that encourage exploration and experimental freedom. If you’ve always yearned for a silly Final Fantasy game that doesn’t take itself seriously, X-2 is for you. But what it might leave you with is an empty and unfulfilling experience; almost as if Square-Enix lacked the confidence in its leading trio of femmes to be interesting or taken seriously on their own merits, the developers instead parade them through a myriad of half-hearted scenarios that never really strike all the affecting chords of the classic stories which preceded them.

In attempting to divest from the traditions of the series and gender stereotypes, Final Fantasy X-2 never surpasses the feeling of being created by a male stereotype: not paying much attention to what it has to offer beyond what appears on the surface.

I'm surprised they picked X-2 to smear, if anything where FF went downhill it was with how absolutely bland Final Fantasy XIII's "Lightning" was written.
X-2 was fine. Gosh darn.. who'dda thunk, games have always been diverse? I'm pretty sure Japan has had a long history to make sure every boob size was included.

Sure, this one didn't go as big as X's Lulu

Despite what you might think of AZ, I think longform
They could probably afford to in the past, but that money is drying up fast.

The past decade or so there were a number of "new normal" pills everyone was supposed to swallow like good little cows.

Because the cattle remain non-compliant, there hasn't been a significant return on investment for many Western companies who embraced wokeness.
I would say that depends on the medium. I think they went really hard with the big movies and triple A games for the appearance of having an audience.
Whilst in fact, all of those have led losses and indeed are drying the pit.

It seems many companies have tried shifting, but as many would say. For the massive studios, it's like steering a ship. We'll be seeing some more spectacular crashes coming out for a while. All whilst they try and finance their failures with smaller scaled projects. Turning from movies, to series, to slowly shriveling up into low Chinese budget dredge. Until it has hopefully found it's niche little racist market that we'd hope capitalism would decide for if it can stick around and in what form of toilet paper scribble news outlet that would be.

But we already see ties to the government. You're already funding this through your tax dollars if you live in Canada.

Does she have enough belts for her leg?
I swear the artist had a weird little phase around the ps2/DS era for belts... and zippers...
