🥝 Community Kiwi Space Station 13 Server (2024 edition) - Space Station 13

  • 🐕 I am attempting to get the site runnning as fast as possible. If you are experiencing slow page load times, please report it.
for all of those dumb faggots concerned about security byond literally sends your password hash to any server you join to check for bans (this is a byond feature known as "stickybanning") so i hope you niggers arent using a password you use on every other site

byond in itself is probably safe but i wouldnt touch this server with a 10 foot pole on my main system. atleast use another computer or a VM to play it. t ss13 player since 2005

couldnt you have used a better fork of ss13 though? atleast hippie?

More than a decade of experience dealing with ss13 and it's community.
Personally saw it infilitrated by troons and the kind of shit they do.
Played on the original 4chan server.

I am telling you. you have fucked up.
If your sole response is "just play the game in a vm while using a VPN lol"
Then you have fucked up. Public codebase doesnt mean shit, not with ss13, not when they can just puch an update later and you auto download it when you connect.
You are combining the most retarded community infested with troons with the most hated website of troons.
This game has had more than a dozen hacks, malware, virus' and that's just the public knowledge shit.
In retard terms you have combined a demoncore with a screwdriver.

But you guys do you. I'm sure itll work out.
Pics are shitty caps from more than a decade ago.

I agree. It is simply bad opsec to combine your kiwifarms identity to any other identity, including your identity used to play this game. If you want to play this videogame, it would probably be better to play it in a way that is separate from your kiwifarms identity / community.

Now that this server has been featured, how long until it is either hacked or ddosed?
its only a matter of time knowing how much ways to crash servers byond has but i imagine some dedicated anti kf sperg will definitely try to fuck the server up and probably expose a massive security problem in byond lol. stay safe niggies and use a VM or a shitty laptop with nothing on it

it's 20 year old software that barely gets any updates and is programmed by the most incompetent retards after all

>Tfw the internet has gotten so hostile that a multiplayer game hosted for members of a forum dedicated to laughing at dumb retards could be enough to get super hacked by a coomer in a dress.

It's all so tiresome...

I'm very torn. On one hand this looks like a lot of fun but on the other if what @xXGlowieSlayerXx is saying is true about VMs and VPNs not being enough is it really worth the risk? It's depressing to have to consider this all... *sigh*

Is there a way to make all the text bigger? Or am I to blame for not running this on ewaste? Got the game running under W11 ARM in VMware Fusion if that info helps at all.

Looks like a resolution scaling thing (like you might have a super high res monitor), you might be able to fix it with the 'Scale' setting in the resolution config thingy in windows

What's the issue with playing in a dedicated VM box behind a VPN? Can they inject code that breaks out from the VM?
No, people have been f-ing with this game for years and years, this is not the first server that will anger the suspiciously well resourced troons, and remote execute has never been achieved. That would totally kill the game. Your client just moves the funny 2d space mans around on the screen based on the messages from the server, it doesn't execute random binary, so its relatively secure as such things go.

He is just being a doomsaying nigger people always do this. Like literally always

I'm sure you are right, the screenshot in my follow up post was taken with windows scaling at 200%, I also tried 300% for kicks and its still the same, the task bar respects the resolution scale but the in game buttons/ui etc don't.

I guess some things are just not meant to be.

Tips for players:
- Use VPN, Mullvad is cheap, private, and decently quick, however widely blocked. So geckogoyim better not block VPN. So if geckogoyim is a bad troony actor, he has no IPs to go off of with you.

- Use VM (already done if playing from Linux lol) so even if the server gets mega-troon-hacked you can only lose your VM and the hacker only gets what's on your VM (only use it for byond).

- Use byond account specifically for this server, use it nowhere else. In addition to a unique password. Again, so if you get haxed you only lose that account. Also a connected ss13 troon can just pull up the Who list and see if other servers have any IPs on file for the CKEY. Do not get byond supporter with this account, just in case a troon is capable of getting payment details for a given account. Also use a forward email for this byond account, just like you did for KF.

Sounds hard, but it really isn't. Many nicer VM managers like virt-viewer for KVM/QEMU will let you route the whole network traffic through a VPN. So even if the troon hacker gets kernel level access to your VM somehow they still won't even get your IP. You should already have a system in place for email forwarding or managing lots of email accounts if you have an account here.

Geckogoyim however is the one under greatest threat here. godspeed, I'm sure Null has pointers for you.

This is a terrible idea.
You retards have no idea just how utterly autistic ss13 is and how badly your going to fuck yourselves if a troon infiltrates the servers admins.
Admin tyranny, banning outsiders. Servers can be password protected, vetting the server team and gassing any troon or furfag on sight

It's depressing but that's just the fate of all places once normies got access to the internets. Someone let me know when shit goes down because someone got pissy and attacked the server.

Ahh, another Mullvad enjoyer. Haven't gotten into SS13 when I should have due to personal issues (namely being too broke to afford even a cheap computer and decent internet) even if I have researched a bunch of things on it, so this stuff really helps a nigga out. Someone mentioned there being a better fork (hippie) but last I checked the guy lost his shit, quit the internet and deleted everything but the source code, are there any better alternatives? I doubt SS13 Unity or SS14 are any good from the shitmin shitshow I've read about and mildly experienced myself ("you know what's a great idea to separate those toxic chin-chins from out golden troons? Universally ban Cargonia! Surely that'll go well!").

As a last ting to try, go to properties on dreamseeker.exe (C:\Program Files (x86)\BYOND\bin for my VM, but in theory 'open file location' on byond shortcut also will get you there)
Then click 'Change high DPI settings' and override the 'High DPI scaling' to System (Enhanced)

I don't have a 4k monitor I can test with (I guess I could plug in the TV but am too lazy), a guy on the forum said this worked for him though

My brother in Christ, we've already patched out most of the issues with the old code. Newcomers don't realize the server existed for a month before being featured.
bro the shit was barely operational when i tried it, borgs couldnt hear anything, the mysql server was crashing, movement is so fucking stuttery. you have not fixed most of the issues, shit it held together with duct tape at best.

Also more importantly the shit just wasn't fun. While the captain giving the AI the laws to kill all niggers and that everyone is a nigger is funny for the first 15 minutes, after like an hour of the station being totally fucked, no one being able to do anything about it and the staff not sending in a death squad to just set off the nuke and end this fuck fest of a round it's just not fun at all. I had some people who play SS13 a lot but dont know shit about the farms join and combined with the movement issues and other bugs plus that round they refused to play on the server again.

I think the main issue was the fact everyone moved so fast and client side the movement speed was very inconsistent pissed them off the most. But that round with 90% of the station dead and unable to do anything for like an hour sealed it for them.

I'm not sure if the movement speed is bugged or it's some retarded system where if you keep moving in one direction it speeds up the speed your going in that direction till you hit some sort of cap. But either way its fucking cancer, too fast, and the most unplayable shit. I've played this game consistently since 2016 and I could barely walk. I get that your trying to do an old school server but some improvements were overall positives and even servers like VG have them now.

When I took a small look last night the speed was absolutely fine so no clue what happened with the round you took part in.

And to be fair perhaps it is better that SS13 players who aren't familiar with the Farms or its culture being deterred from playing again could be seen as a positive.

A lot of people playing SS13 are mostly deterred by shitty admins and hand holding changes so I would completely disagree, there were no cultural issues. All issues stemmed from the codebase and the fact that staff were not doing anything at all. The concept of only enforcing the rules after the fact is a terrible idea. Ban evading in SS13 is not as hard as it used to be, there are programs to spoof HWID bans client side that dont even require a VM now, said programs have built in script loaders, ESP and such also. One person can fuck the entire round and when staff won't even end said round it's just boring.

With the speed we were having weird issues like the first 4 tiles we moved would be at a reasonable speed then suddenly your speed would increase to this insanely fast speed, it made things really unplayable.

Theres no reason you should have to deter everyone who isn't farm familiar for some sort of safe space either way. Also, most you suck ass at the game.
