Barret most definitely. Constantly cursing and shouting. The "Mr. T" look was also done on purpose. But people liked that and got attached to him.

Jax was pretty much a big black man gonna pound your face in. That was the long and short of it. Nothing too fancy or elaborate. Just grab you and punch you.
Heh, well I certainly would deny the Mr T look and cussing etc. I just thought the rest of the story lifted him out of the stereotype somewhat.

I am seriously starting to wonder if there's something behind the black dude with prosthetics stereotype now though

...what's a herb in this context?
I'm going to wildly guess this is a reference to a weed, less than human, der untermensch.

There is no way that Jen did not fucking know what "herb" means.
edit, I am a fucking retard.
I don't get it.
I'm not entirely sure either. But if that's an herb, we on the kiwi farms are the spice.

Here's another reason why GamerGate 2.0 really doesn't matter.
While NA and Europe complain about DEI and forced bullshit the rest of the gaming world (China, especially) have been calling the shots anyway:

This is another huge nail in the coffin of Sweet Baby--the fact that their "core" demographic isn't white men from NA or Europe.
The "Gamers Rise Up" thing doesn't mean anything when only 20% of your gaming pop are being beleaguered by woke bullshit anyway and only a fraction of that 20% even wants to do anything about it.
Whenever any company releases their games, Asia, the Middle East, and Africa immediately engage in a bunch of censorship, thereby removing the Sweet Baby "innovative" inoculations from the get-go.
This is another reason why a lot of NA gamers have been upset for ages. The fact that "gaming" as an industry has been China first for the longest time given that's the only way they can make back the money they spend on making games in the first place. Movies are the same way.
This goes hand-in-hand with what @PaladinBoo was saying about these overinflated budgets. The budget is designed around a consumer base that extends far beyond the boundaries of NA and Europe and yet Sweet Baby is under the asinine impression that the "core" still encapsulates NA and Europe for some reason.
TL;DR - Your products are made for Chinese people first, and then you. You're last in line.

This is why every new character in League of Legends is a sexy anime character they can sell a million skins off.
So...

The "innovative" forced representation stuff is actively censored in many areas outside of the US
What this means is roughly 20% of the consumers playing your games will even get to witness Kim Belair's black-on-black utopian dream.
Meanwhile 80% of the world censors the faggotry and basically play a "normal" game.
So much for revolutionizing the industry...

Perhaps they are chasing the money or they think they are anyway.

Not sure if I'd think Jax or Barret Wallace were particularly stereotypes though. Fighting games, especially back then didn't have much depth. But I don't remember many black dudes rocking the metal arms. And then there's Barre-.. wait... is metal arms a stereotype?

Edit: Okay.. maybe I am starting to notice a trend.

Black cyborg is a trope, an old one.

This is why Palworld won.
unrelated but can someone explain to me why palworld is sucha huge success? i played it for a few hours to see what the hype was about, and i found it pretty boring. shallow combat, generic open world survival craft shit slapped on top - if this slop is considered a serious competitor to pokemon then pokemon must have suffered quite a drastic fall from grace since i last played one of their games (which was ages ago, pokemon silver on the game boy color)

Palworld has:

* A good hook that is easy to explain and market - Pokemon with guns.
* Gameplay that is pretty popular right now - Openworld + survival with some base building
* Fun gameplay loop off finding more and more Pals which you then you use to automate aspects of your base, allowing you to go out and find more and more pals, etc
* Gameplay that is wacky /fun that is very easy to share in 30 seconds clips
* Made by people that you can feel are really trying their best and want to make a good game. Interviews with the creators really make you appreciate what they have accomplished.
* A ton of interactions with the Pals, including ridding them and giving them guns/using them as weapons. Its fun to unlock the special skill just to see how they interact with the world.

But yes, Pokemon has gotten stall and horribly buggy. The games are just starting to feel like paint by numbers rehashes so Palworld coming in and trying to do something new was going to be a new success.

He shouldn't chase waterfalls and should stick to the rivers he's used to."
I get that reference, and now I'm feeling old.

Black man and white women. Hmm, interesting, you never really see that in media...

(the woke trash has been around far longer than video games buddy. You are just now aware of it)
iirc there were never any romantic undertones, MK was about outrageous (for that time) violence first anyway. and even if jax was a cool nigga, he got a pass.

having a quota black in your ensemble wasn't exactly woke, same way 90's "girl power" is hardly the same as the "strong female character" we get these days.
