I do think there is a serious point to be made about why certain individuals think this way.

They focus on the negative side of human civilisation (traffic jams, forest loss, global warming etc.) but seldom think of the positive side of it, (modern medicines, centrally heated buildings, video games). That is because they do not associate these things with the civilisation that produced them.

Their minds are so twisted by the comforts of modern life that they take those things very much for granted, such that they fail to envision that a world populated by humans could ever not have most of these things. It probably seems intuitive to them that a few million people living in the woods like Native Americans are not so different from us. So surely they have the spare time and resources to go through all the steps required to, say, synthesise an anti-cancer drug?

And so I think people do need to experience living in the wilderness, maybe for a week-long camping trip in childhood, not to sow the anti-civ seeds in their mind but for the exact opposite reason: so that they understand how difficult the simplest of tasks become when you're fighting the elements because you don't have access to the infrastructure a modern civilisation has, and ultimately to make sure they don't take the home comforts of human civilisation for granted.

They actually do, they just don't associate with civilization itself. It goes back to radical leftism, specifically the Rousseau line of thinkers (Rousseau Kant Hegel marx) who advocated for what they call radical freedom of the three forms of freedom (rand and Nietzsche aristocratic freedom, Locke and Hayek non aggression/non coercion freedom, Rousseau and hegel radical freedom) because they believed human nature tends towards goodness and civilization is the root of all human corruption/evil. John Locke and his line of thinkers believed in the opposite so they advocated for freedom where the non aggression/non coercion principle is universal law which is our contemporary view of what freedom is. So leftists, the more radical you get have an incentive to destroy society as it currently exists cause they believe they'll be purging all evil and corruption by destroying civilization, freeing mankind from it's shackles as people like marx called it. People living in tribal communes in mud huts with shared resources is to them the purest form of living. Also pink Floyds the wall shows this if anybody still thinks Roger waters isn't a commie piece of shit in the song "what shall we do now". People are contained in "civilization" which is a walled zone filled with capitalist and consumerist distractions, supposedly.
