So I have been playing through the first kingdom hearts again and I can't still phantom how such a insane idea (Hey, lets have Donald Duck fight against Cloud!) could turn out to be such an enjoyable game.
What I have notice with playing the first one again (it is the ps4 final mix/1.5 whatever edition) is how well the game hold up apart from the controls (which took me around 30 min to get used to) and how good it is.
I know that the story become more crazy in the other games in the series but the first one still holds up really well.
The music is among the best of its generation and I find "Dearly beloved" to be very good.

Anyway, I wonder what the rest of the farms thinks about the Kingdom hearts series and what is your history with it is?
Do you think the series is awesome or is it a mess because Tetsuya Nomura can't plan ahead with its plot for shit?

kingdom hearts has gameplay that varies from alright to pretty fuckin' good. the music is outstanding and the visual design for things is one of the best in the medium.

i want to say the story is complete and utter nonsense, because I honestly feel like it is. but there were autists who were able to predict twists in KH3 years before the game came out, so maybe I'm just not retarded/smart enough to follow it.

I've only played the first two but they were really good. I like wild JRPG stories. As long as they make enough sense that it's not distracting, I'm good. Aesthetics, design, and atmosphere are way more important than autistic lorefag shit.

ive loved kingdom hearts ever since the first game. i do get why some people dont care for the games or have issues with the story but personally i find that type of overly complex nonsense enjoyable and have never really had an issue understanding the story.

i dont really like the controls in the first game as much as i do the others simply because for some reason everything in the first game feels so slow. its not game ruining or anything though it just takes a bit to get used to especially if you have played the later games more.

but yeah overall kingdom hearts is great and i look forward to kingdom hearts 4 which i suspect is going to be the second to last game.

As much shit as KH catches (and rightly so) i still think that at least 1,2 and *maybe* CoM can be played and enjoyed as a trilogy, it was til they made Birth by Sleep where the story began to jump the shark, and by Dream Drop Distance the shark was already dead

Still good games though, looking forward to 4

one may have been a clunky mess with awful platforming, but it had soul damn it! the very idea of Disney character's being in a Japanese RPG with final fantasy characters, sounded so batshit insane that it may work out (it kinda did).

kingdom hearts 2 is still in my top 10 of favorite games on the ps2. if you wanted to get a feel how it was like to be a kid in the mid 00, thats kingdom hearts 2.

the series got fucked when BBS came out but DDD sealed the deal. never bring in time travel into your story so late. also, three was very mid.

im trump in this.

I need Tiana, Pocahontas, and Lightning. Yes I said Lightning.

It'd be cool to see a Black Cauldron or Atlantis world.

And ffs can we make Maleficent prominent again? Shes the most popular Disney villain by far.
I was pretty sure Lightning would've appeared by KH3, maybe Noctis too, being the more recent characters at that point, but oh, disappointment, not only did they not appear, the only FF characters were relegated to the DLC

The series ends at a high note on 2. I would say shame they never made another game, but I'm really happy with the ending we got and it's probably the best way to end this crazy ass FF/Disney crossover fanfic story line, especially with closure to the ice cream trio's story from Days. I'm glad it's over because lord knows they'd go some really dumb route and cheapen the whole thing by bringing everyone back.

Edit: this is a fucking gold mine

I am both a hardcore weeb and a hardcore JRPG fan and I cannot fathom how anyone could like this series in any way.

I even bought the PS3 HD collection to give it an honest try to see if I was wrong. I was not. It's the worst of Nomura coupled with Disney autism.

You'd be surprised how appealing this can be, especially since it's played completely straight. Besides that factor, even if you're not on board with the autisim ride and just skip the cutscenes they're fun ARPG's at worst with decently constructed worlds (especially in KH3).

I remember playing KH1 and maybe KH2 back in the day. I don't remember much about them. I remember them being kind of fun. I don't think I played the whole way through them though. I do remember them being better than I was expecting though.

Oh boy, it's my time to shine again. I have played far too many of these games as a kid (nearly all of them) and boy what a fucking rollercoaster they are. Kingdom Hearts 1 holds a place in my heart as an excellent game all the way through. KH2, even more so. One of the best games ever made, but only once Final Mix came out. I was endlessly salty about not getting Final Mix for years as a kid. 3? Hot fucking mess. DLC was alright. Still a fun game, but by far the weakest out of the 3 with a development cycle from Hell that I could go on an autistic rant about. Either way, it was inevitable for a game that got restarted from scratch twice.

Now as far the side games....holy fuck what a mixed bag.

BBS - This is the closest to a solid game, but it's held back because combat is awkward without staggering mechanics. Also, this fuck whatever developer thought making that stupid Ice Cream Mini game mandatory.

DDD - It's worse BBS with Pokemon. The most fun I had was naming the Dream Eaters because they don't censor much. Otherwise the game is meh and very skippable. Very mid.

Coded: Fun, weird gameplay, overall it's skippable but I wouldn't. Stupid as hell story though.

365/Days - Fuck this game. Fuck this game. Fuck this game. This game was the most frustrating experience in the series. Sure, everyone loves the story. But the gameplay blows hard.

COM - ReCom and COM are almost two essentially different games. Honestly? They're the best of the series story wise in my opinion and I think they're overly hated. The card system is pretty intuitive and it's not that much to get around after you get used to it. ReCom has actual cutscenes and more stuff, but it's piss easy. The original COM though is actually pretty difficult. The Organization is a constant threat and beating these ass holes feels incredibly satisfying. Larxene can infinitely stun lock you. Vexen isn't a joke. Axel has that twin fireball that does a lot of damage. Sora actually has a full range of emotions in this game and feels like a person. All great stuff.

I think that the issue with Kingdom Hearts is, to a degree, the first game was a roll of the dice. JRPG crossed with Disney? They might have left things open for a sequel but I don't think anyone was certain they had a winner.

Then they did and suddenly it was time to milk the cow dry getting all the cash they could. Games spread across different platforms to get the extra sales, plot tied into mobile games and more means it was both companies at their absolute worst in terms of naked greed.
