I was on the 135 going onto the SS one day, and there was a bunch of cars in front of me that were also behind a truck that got off of exit 4W, STOPPED in the midde of the ext because it took him THAT long to realize he fucked up, and started backing up. All the cars, including mine, honked like hell at the truck but it did no good because the truck crunched the car behind it on it's left-side headlights.

IDK where the fuck these trucker companies have been getting their drivers from but they have been doing some really dumb shit on the roads. But now the exits on 135 to SS have BIG signs all over the place basically telling truckers to fuck off and not go there because apparently they are THAT fucking stupid.

I can imagine recruiting for these jobs is getting harder and harder, so they're probably barrel scraping. The Pseudo-intelligent probably avoid it thinking it'll be automated, the actually intelligent just have better job options than trucking, and the normal guys don't want to spend most of their life away from home in a box in the middle of bumfuck nowhere for just ok pay. So they're getting retards - I don't even know if "Hard Working Underpaid Illegal" is an option, pretty sure CDL's do actually check citizenship/permanent resident status.

Considering how passively stupid the average person is getting, I can 100% believe that there are more truckers than ever not thinking ahead in the slightest to questions like "Can I fit here" and "Am I about to hit someone correcting my previous mistake". They're probably throwing on a phone for navigation, which doesn't know whether a particular route is semi compatible or not, and drive off to their doom.

This doesn't surprise me one bit. Like every week there's an 18 wheeler that tries to drive through the tail of the dragon DESPITE the signs that say "your trucker GPS is wrong, you can't make it through these curves, and there is a fee for recovery".

Anybody here actually using / used Truth Social. I've never visited it so I just typed "Truth Social" and found it on the second page of search results after various news stories and the Wikipedia article. Clicked the link and got told "Not available in your area."

In my experience, the only computer systems hooked up to the engine room were for telemetry and remote operation and the whole computer system existed in a close-loop that didn't communicate with anything else except the ship's system. The computer system could also be overriden manually by going down to the engine room and taking whatever action you had to.

I think, what it really is, is that you aren't really familiar with how ships work and what goes on inside them. Not really trying to slight you, but I feel like that's why you're thinking about "hacking." The main nefarious part of this, as I said in the other thread, is that the ship's captain and the company were probably well aware of mechanical deficiencies and the possibility of an engineering casualty (they possibly, probably even, had an engineering casualty exactly like this before but fixed it) but cut corners and ignored it because it would cost money to fix it and take the ship out of use for an extended period of time to correct.

Engineering casualties rarely "just happen." They're usually a result of a culmination of factors which include but don't stop with a poorly-trained crew. I'm sure the investigation will show that these guys cut corners and the engineering plant is completely fucked and was running on duct tape and prayer.

Presumably the thinking is that a loss of power and a restart isn't a big deal for 95% of the ship's journey, i.e. out at sea. And what are the chances of it happening just as a ship is heading into port, right? So lets chance it.

It's even simpler. Trucks are allowed on Expressways but not on parkways. So a trucker is allowed on the Long Island Expressway but not allowed on the Southern State Parkway, the Northern State Parkway, Grand Central Parkway, etc. where the overpasses are too low. Yet almost weekly I see a truck stopped on the Northern State parkway waiting for the police to help back him up the on ramp.

So literally truck drives can't tell the difference between the words "Expressway" and "Parkway".
