Sony hate thread

On one hand, glad to see Ratchet and am interested in a new IP, on the other hand, who is going to wait a decade for this? Sony probably won't even be alive by that point.
Sony will still be around by then, but not its Playstation consoles nor its brand as it will go the same path as other discontinued Sony brands such as Mobile, Tablet or Reader or brands they've sold off like Vaio or Vegas Pro

Ratchet and Clank is probably one of the most mishandled franchises in gaming history. The PS2 had a trilogy of games developed closely together. Then the PS3 had two sets of games made quickly in succession. The PS4 and PS5 have essentially one game each and the PS4 game is a remake of the first game and a marketing tie-in to the movie (which bombed).

SONY basically had their own version of Mario then destroyed it in the span of a few years.

I'm 100+ hours in in Y8 and not even close to finishing it, what the fuck am i doing with my life? Didn't even play Dondoko Island because i already found the mandatory introduction to be brutally unfun. At the beginning of Ch.13 and i am so burnt out on it that i haven't touched it in a month's time. The content is just too much and largely not as good as in Y7 and other games in the series preceding it.
I was at the 80-some hour mark when I beat the final boss, and that's without engaging in any side stories or minigames. It is a very drawn out game.

If you're at Chapter 13, you can power through the rest of the game. One of the stupidest things about Infinite Wealth is that you don't even get Joongi Han until that chapter, so he'll be underdeveloped. Everyone else will have like fifty levels of bond ahead of him. Anyway, just go ahead and finish it up. There are a couple of pretty great bosses before the final ones.

Yeah, it already pissed me off how long it took for Zhao (fav character from Y7, god-tier seiyū, loved his role in Ishin! too) to be playable, i am exactly at the part where Joongi joins, i am overleveled as a motherfucker already and don't think i will do anything with him except going through all diner conversations and try to get as many city conversations as i can. Total bullshit that he joins this late, loved him in Y7 as well. Best scene in the game so far was meeting Daigo, Taiga and Majima and the following fight, the writing was stellar and Majima's seiyū killed it, as always.[/SPOILER]

Edit: No idea why Xenforo makes the ū look like it's bolded. Maybe it's a sign to tell me i should stop being a weeb and just write VA instead.

Quattrocento KF doesn't have ū, so it uses a fallback font.

I always felt like it's bad design for an RPG to have characters join very late in the game, unless they're optional bonuses. Earthbound did that too, having Poo join very late, and then leave for a while. You only get to have a full party for a very small portion of the game.

Contrast that against Final Fantasy VII, where everyone's obtainable before the end of the first disc. That's how it should go. Infinite Wealth gives you a roster of ten people by the end, but you spend so much of it with a party of just three at a time.

The way they do this in Shining Force 2 is complete trash

So when you get your basic bitch team, you have the option to upgrade them as soon as they reach LV20 or wait till they reach LV40. if you do the latter, by the time you're done grinding them to LV20 after upgrade they are so fucking strong, everything that attacks them deal only 1 damage. As you progress through the game you wind up recruiting members that have already been upgraded, but their defenses are so fucking terrible they go down in 1 or 2 hits, including the robot and golem, which are SUPPOSED to be tanky.

Incidentally I also play this game on "OUTCH" difficulty, but even on normal difficulty the new Wizard and Master Monk you get take massive damage.

The thing with R&C was that it was only meant to be 6 games. The rest of them are products of loads of weird company politics, which I will refrain from going into again.

It could never be a Mario, or even a Sonic. The story got in the way of them making endless sequels and the complete tonal overhaul of the series between PS2 to PS3 left it without a true identity. It didn’t help that it faded out of being a big seller during the PS3. PS4 sold well, but given that Rift is in a questionable place with its success (leaks), it might have just been a nostalgia fluke like what happened with Crash.

That splitting up into multiple games is the biggest bullshit next to the combat system.
Knowing what we know about Sony execs from those emails leaks a while back, I'd wager they saw how WB split up the Hobbit across 3 films and thought to themselves, "fuck, that's a good idea! We can milk this golden goose for 3 games instead of 1!"

"But the key here is what Campos describes as the "18/6 Rule." Basically, the developers that Microsoft would hire on a contract basis—that is to say, for a fixed term without healthcare or benefits—could only work for a maximum of 18 months before being required to take six off."
This practice stems from a lawsuit in the early 90's (that has apparently been repeated in 2005) where contractors who'd been working at HP in various capacities for longer than 2 years started to demand the same benefits regular employees received, on the legal theory that they'd been working there for so long they were de facto "regular employees" anyway. That argument has been fairly successful over the years.

So HP "innovated" in the field of "fucking over everyone who isn't HP" by mandating that no contractor could ever work at HP for longer than 18 months at a stretch, with a minimum gap of 3 months between stints. This was done to ensure those lowly rent-a-workers knew their place and had no expectation of long-term employment and the juicy benefits it comes with. It also skirted the court's ruling that long-term contractors were entitled to benefits by ensuring no contractor could ever reach what the court decided was "long term."

The rest of the industry watched that shit show and quickly adopted HP's "solution" to the contractor benefits problem.

Sarah MM best MM. God, i love that game, my very first SRPG. Those character portraits really sparked joy in my childhood soul. Some Fire Emblem games (Path of Radiance comes to mind) also fuck you over if you invested in the already promoted characters, peak newbie trap.

Man, FFVII did it right and I still feel like Cid comes in pretty late tbqh.

Maybe not quite so much with gameplay time, but narratively he isn't there for the Nibelheim flashback, the Junon boat ride, Mt. Corel/Gold Saucer and Cosmo Canyon.

Hell, you (can) pick up Yuffie and Vincent before him.

Yeah, I thought he showed up a little late too, but you also get five characters before you're even out of Midgar. I never really thought about it, but Final Fantasy's usually pretty good at delivering your full party roster early enough to where you get to enjoy them for most of the game. Final Fantasy VI, you get everyone but the two secret characters before the massive midgame event. Final Fantasy V, the last one is Faris, who arrives within like the first hour or so (Cara may as well be a sprite swap). Final Fantasy IV... well, nevermind.

I'm not sure playstation can really afford to buy many more studios. Bungie is almost entirely a write-off, all their live service games and the studios they bought to make them are write-offs, they invested a fortune into china and india and both of those initiatives are massive failures. I don't think people realize just how much money sony has pissed away because there is literally almost nothing to show for any of it. There are dozens of games that were either shitcanned, paused or never revealed because they'd all be a laughing stock like Fairgame$.
Sony lost $10b in value and they laid the blame directly on PS5, saying they want to spin off their financial services business which is actually doing better, whereas playstation used to carry the company.

I mean the third master monk is basically a pity MM for people who were too retarded to find the item to make the other ones, the robot and the golem sucking is just kind of a problem with that type of character in that game, the turtle you get extremely early on still sucks even if you get him to 40

His attack pre-upgrade is attrocious, but he's actually do-able after promotion. the only issue is that like 25-50 percent of the time he'll belch flames that is pre-set magic damage (i.e. LV4 flame attack) and will be less powerful than his actual physical attack. Only stat that TRUELY sucks is his HP, which is why he needs to stay clear from magic enemies. Otherwise he's reflecting physical attacks all day like it's dandruf

I'm starting to see adverts for Rise of the Ronin. Will it give sony sisters an excuse to be happy for owning that brick for a week or is it anpther pozzed mess? Only thing I've heard is a faggy disclaimer about the events in the game bien violent and sads :(

Looks like Ghost of Tsushima. But then again all asians look alike.
Might try it out even though I suck at "action" games.
