Maintenance of critical but not immediate stuff is the same. You either have a strict safety culture or you have a third world bribery type culture. Most of the time you’ll get away with it. It doesn’t always blow up that day.
They won’t be doing shit they know will immediately sink the ship but they will be skimping or bribing their way past inspections for stuff that’ll fail in a year or two, or probably be fine. These guys aren’t tied to the ship for life, they’re hired as crew for a set time. If most of the time the daily inspection tickboxes can just be ticked and it’s always been fine you can bet your bottom dollar that at least a proportion of crews will tick the box or bribe the official.

This bridge collapse is similar to the sunshine skyway bridge collapse of 1980 and the lessons learned from it back then were to build barriers around the bridge pylons to prevent a ship collision. Doing so would be doubly important on a bridge near a busy port. For 40 years nobody did.

Yes, but those cases are from a context where whites weren't actively pushed out of roles in favor of less competent DNC client groups. There are plenty of shipwrecks with white guys at the helm, but you know those guys had solid reasons for being there even if they screwed the pooch. These days, any non-white in charge is likely as not to be in charge because they're non-white, not because they have any business in the role.

I did a fair bit of travelling when younger for work and what have you and transport was always fun.
Another Malaysian ferry I got on it was pretty rough. I went up to the open deck for fresh air there was a guy puking over the railings looking terrible. I gave him a sympathetic nod and and looked in the little cabin thing where the steering is. There is a child steering the boat. The guy who was supposed to be steering the boat was the guy puking over the railings. That was a sketchy trip.

That is incorrect. Per WP it was Francesco Schettino , born in Italy. Reportedly the captain was distracted by "Moldovan dancer Domnica Cemortan, who was on the bridge at the time. Cemortan later admitted to being present on the bridge, and having an affair with Schettino."

If this is just an honest mistake, it's a very specific one to make, and if it isn't, then I'm starting to think you're just saying whatever makes the chimps happy.
