So I suspect he's taking a page out of Shaun's fascism book - remember, the main claims come from him - and will ignore how the things he lays out for fascism applies to him. Consider how Shaun fans were using Umberto Eco's Nu-fascism without realizing it fit them to a T.

I really like his other work but it’s hard to read this one because you read it through the eyes of someone living in current year. When it was written, times were very different and he was right in the middle of genuine facism, and narrowly escaped some unpleasant consequences for it
. Tbh, it could as easily apply to todays left as yesterdays right, and to me it shows that the distinction of left/right is false. It’s more about controlling authoritarian tendencies vs more human focused order.
