Fwiw I don't think the "third worlders" have a poor safety culture because they're being lazy and negligent, I think their planes and boats are in crappy condition because it's the best they can get their hands on, and transportation is a necessity.

I don’t believe I’ve done either. It’s tragic that lives were lost, and very brave of the guy who who halted the traffic to offer to go and warn them (and as others have pointed out, that particular chap is very likely black) which would have resulted in him dying too. Literally the whole reason why they're poor third worlders is because they lack the ability to improve their lives. When they see the boats and planes in America (usually) working fine without crashing, they just assume there is magic dirt and not that diligent care must be taken. They lack the capacity to fully understand how important it is to do things correctly, and even if one does there's still systematic corruption that prevents them from improving themselves.
Newer CVRs (the audio part) keep working even if the entire airplane shits down; the FDR will also record but may have nothing to record if the entire plane electrical is off.
