Where did she say any of those things they claim though? That it's about "suffering" and victim roles"? That being a woman is "constant pain"? She talks about protecting vulnerable women, which doesn't mean every woman ever is a victim and in pain. I think she only mentioned in her essay once that when she was younger, she might have thought that it would be better to be a man. She says this as an example that thinking this can be normal and it doesn't mean you are NOT a woman. And it's just THEIR assumption that main character = the one you have to identify with most as the author, when Rowling never said that.

They also have arrested development. As children, we're slammed with a lot of gender role bullshit. Boys like trucks and swordfights, girls like dolls and playing house. So if a girl likes swordfighting with sticks with the boys in her class, she will have thoughts about how she relates to boys more.

Part of growing up into a mature, functional adult is realizing that all that rhetoric about certain activities and toys being only for a certain gender is full of bullshit. Girls can like trucks, boys can like dolls. But someone with arrested development will think, "A girl can't like trucks! It means she's a boy!" Thus reinforcing the extreme gender roles they claim to be abolishing--which is the core of the TRA movement. They want gender roles as much as the fundamentalist Christians.

I'm not the biggest fan of the Strike novels, only read the first three, but they are very decent and well-written thriller pieces, with a very memorable and unique main character (which is probably the most important part for crime literature imo), and calling them forgettable is a wide reach. I definitely will not forget Silk Worm, that's a wild book. Also, all writers should learn and know that shitting publicly on another writer's work is one of the dumbest things you can do in the industry.
