Rat Dad really should install some kind of swinging door that swings outwards into the hall and that does not have any kind of securing mechanism on the opposite side of the hinges, a bit like a wild west saloon door. Might mean it would survive a bit longer.

The curtain was so incredibly hilarious, my favorite part was when he'd jump up to do his angsty little "oh mai gawd dood" hallway tantrums, and when he stomps back inside his room the curtain would still be swaying from when he fruitily pushed it aside when he stomped out.

Nails will not work. I'm going to have to powerlevel here. :-) Nails will damage the frame and are dead wrong for a number of reasons.

A door jamb is typically 3/4" minus the router depth of the hinge so about 11/16 thick. The plate of the hinge being 1/16 through to 3/16. A screw (usually a #12 with a tapered head) is supposed to sit flush with the face of the hinge plate and if a nail has a big enough head to not go through the hinge screw holes then it undoubtedly will not sit flush with the face plate resulting in a door...that will not close properly because the hinge is "bound". Screw holes are bevelled for a reason. If you door doesn't close it I likely because a screw head is not fully installed and the typical gap between a hinge plate and the other plate is 1/16" in a home interior door, which is negated by anything sitting proud of the plate. Nails from a gun will also warp the frame by pulling the hinge too close to the frame as it compresses also throwing the door out. You'll also blow apart shims used between the frame and the door jamb with nails, and it is almost a certainty that you can not get the nail with a nail gun dead center in the hole, again now pulling the hinge either to the interior or exterior resulting in a "twisted" hinge that will now creak as the door bends to fit the hinge that is undoubtedly now not plumb.

The last door that was made that was OK to use nails in the hinge area was made probably about 200 years ago.

Anyone who doubts this should go to Home Depot or Lowes to the contract division and ask the guys at the counter what nails to use to attach a door and watch as silent laughter breaks out as they realize there is a retard before them that somehow managed to drive to their store or get dropped off by a care giver.
