Disaster Barge strikes bridge in Oklahoma, halting highway traffic - The Arkansas River bridge near US-59 and the Robert S. Kerr Lock and Dam was shut down, but has since reopened

(paywalled, don't click)
A large barge hit a bridge over the Arkansas River in Oklahoma prompting a nearby major highway to temporarily close Saturday, the highway patrol said.

According to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol, the barge rammed into the bridge near the Kerr Lock & Dam on Saturday afternoon.

There were no reports of injuries on the highway or the barge, Stewart said.

It was not immediately known what caused the barge to hit the bridge.

The Oklahoma Department of Transportation later posted on X that the highway had reopened after engineers inspected the bridge.

This is going to cause a few people in the department of transportation to spaz out a bit. On the plus side, maybe it'll push a few groups to demand some more tax dollars get put toward the transportation infrastructure. Particularly as its an election year. If nothing else at least a few roads that need it might get some paving done

The money may be earmarked for it but I can guarantee that none of it is going to the roads. At this point it's full grift, baybee.

At least this bridge didn't collapse. Still is unnerving we got reports of a second collision so soon.
