General Discussion for Virtual Youtubers / Vtubers / Chuubas - it's okay to be a simp for 2D, just don't thirstpost.

Miko lore should carry this through. Miko captured, replaced by Mikodanye, grows more dangerous......

.....then Chiimiko saves the day. And we find out Chiimiko was actually Superchatbaby, hiding from the organization the whole time.

Well, that's a rejected Scott Pilgrim side character if I've ever seen one. Honestly, I'm surprised that I haven't really seen any vtuber models with that proto-calarts-but-not-as-shit Bryan Lee O'Malley artstyle.

Because anyone treating v-tubers as a trend that needs to be "de-weebed" has no loyalty to the streamers. That and I'm sure about 1% of those viewers are real.

I'll say up front I don't know a ton about her beyond having just seen her design, but as far as "de-weebed" goes I have seen at least one western cartoon styled vtuber who has a pretty cool design that's like a 1950s cartoon style

I want to take a moment and point out that gatekeeping can be important. It might seem that letting normal people into a niche community might be innocuous, but then people can make changes or lead to the degradation of community. I think video games becoming mainstream has lead to a decline in the industry, since now there is a large market, and they don't need to try as hard to make as much money, and they can pander to idiots who whine about things in video games, or are incapable of rising to a challenge.

I always see this line of thinking, usually paired with that one dumb 4chan comic. But at the end of the day It's kind of just an empty platitude that comes from a place where you have to believe "we" have that kind of collective agency over the market in order to even be able to gatekeep.

If gatekeeping worked in that way retards like Mana mentioned on the last page would have been run off a long time ago. If it worked people like Froot would be long gone, or Artemis. But it doesn't, because they only need a small number of supporters to sustain them. content creation and streaming is a wide open market and you can't "keep people out" if there's people that want to watch them, they will. And here's the twist. That's a good thing, because that's the same shit that sustains people like Pippa when the internet tries to cancel her for the 40th time. That lets someone like Sayu start to bounce back after Niji deletes them.

You're not gonna gatekeep people out of vtubing, but you can keep supporting the ones you DO enjoy to ensure there's still somewhere for you to go and someone for you to watch even if other people you don't like start partaking of the hobby.
