Warhammer 40k

As long as we're still recommending audio books / dramas, I just remembered another one that stars not only my beloved Mechanicus but also Judge Dredd the Adeptus Arbites:

I’ll give that one a listen tonight, “Children of Sicarus” is another good one, gets into Kor Phaeron’s head and shows how the WB got their new homeworld.

“The Revalation of the Word” is a Lorgar focused one, they make him sound like Arbiter and it’s his first encounter with the cult of the emperor…… it’s hilarious seeing a normal human woman buck-break a primarch into a rage-fit.
I just have a box of plague marines and champions I’m going to use as legionnaires for kill team since the KT legionnaires are too Black Legion styled for my tastes and I want something different plus don’t like Black Legion. (It’s an older purchase in a box of shame never put to use so it’s a way to put them to use) But yeah they’re over the top ridiculous style wise. Even the coming Night Lords kill team looks ridiculous. If I ever do a Night Lords army in 40k I might just use primarily HH stuff instead of 40k chaos. Shit, I should just use HH to build out a Legionnaires/NightLord KT as an excuse to build up a HH army.
I’m all for flair (I’m a son of Fulgrim) but it should be for officers, HQs and elites only, those new Night Lords don’t look like a squad, each guy looks like he should be a warlord of his own band of bastards.

Seriously though, HH models are the more economic route, especially for Chaos, where our vehicle kits are outdated crap and the molds are failing. Pay a bit more and get a Rhino that’s lore-accurate and the mold is still new.

I actually caved and ignored my own advice, I ordered Fafnir Rann for a conversion, I needed the artificer MKIII for a character in my warband’s fluff.

Any audiobook recommendations? Really like audiobooks for work or walking.

I've listened to the Eisenhorn/Ravenor/Bequin series, Gaunts ghosts and most of the Ciaphus Cain series and really enjoyed all of them (Ciaphus series got a bit too repetitive imo)
The Infinite and the Divine + The twice dead king books are great.

Abomination and Mechanicus blood & steel are easily the best fan made 40k stories I've listened to so I'm glad to see another fan of them, granted both are very different in tone with abomination making b&s feel very light hearted in comparison.

Infinite and Divine, and The Twice Dead King are both pretty good. I'd also throw Assassinorum Kingmaker(Same as the I&D author) onto that list. I don't know where GW got Robert Rath from, but he is a massive step up in quality compared to most of the black library shit. The only other author I can think of that even comes close for them would be Chris Wraight but even he's written some mediocre stuff(probably got told to write some shit like that Dawn of Fire series book). Fall of Cadia is... alright but it comes off as a damned avengers endgame type thing due to the random ass people being involved or showing up out of the blue, but that's GWs fault for halfassing moving the story along for 2 decades.

I don't know how he ended up writing for 40k but he was originally the head writer for Extra History the Extra Credits spinoff which is always surprising to me.

I’ll always remember during the Siege of Terra, that guardsman and skittari

“Hey, you pretty under all that?”

Her voice box is damaged but the book described all the ways she was not pretty “under all that” and that her gun was killing him from the radiation

But she gave him a nod regardless, one small moment of humanity during the nightmare siege. Love that shit

I can't find the quote now but I assume you're talking about the Skitarii Vanguard and how their hair and teeth fall out and their skin is covered in sores and presumably they bleed from their assholes like that one guy in Hadashi no Gen after Hiroshima is bombed. But as far as "small moments of humanity", if you read the Forge of Mars, there's a delinquent Guardsman who sets up a moonshine still in some lost corner of a Mechanicus Ark and, IIRC, mentions bribing Skitarii with the output. I'm not sure I want to find out how they consume it.

Eh, can't judge you for that. Fafnir's a great model and I've seen a lot of neat conversions with him.
I’m turning him into Primus Medicae, Marvus Torvin, gene-master of the Emperor’s Children 57th Company.

He’s getting spliced with some Sanguinary Priest parts I acquired, some bits I created and an old MKIII helmet.

He’s a character from a Black Crusade game I ran, who proved popular with my players and he suprisingly lived so I worked him into the background of my warband.

The Mars trilogy is great, it’s Disney’s Atlantis in 40k, love it for that.

So wait a sec, did this Emperor's Children guy steal some of his equipment from a poor Blood Angel after anally violating him?

You can probably guess how I might be hugely biased in this matter but here's a REALLY good fan-written work set on a Forge World:

Helsreach too but you probably know that.

Thanks for the rec!
One of the first places I used to look for wh40k novels was 4chans /tg board, the used to post mega folder links to novels. I don't know if they do anymore. 7chans /tg board was good too.

If you wanna PM me I have an Icedrive e-books folder with a pretty substantial amount of 40K stuff

One of my players was a former blood angel

But no, the Sanguinary Priest is just a good source of apothecary parts without buying a Primaris kit, a resin kit or a larger squad.

The BA and EC aesthetic is similar enough, just have the blood drops into gems.

Yeah I'm part of the fan base that doesn't own any plastic crack. I have a fine motor tremor and would be completely shit at painting those minis.

See, my hands used to be Doctor Strange tier post-crash, now after years of this, I got Doctor Strange hands, pre-crash tier. Not the same as your problem but this silly hobby did help me get over my shaky nervous hands. I used to do carpentry so once I fell into the loop/learned my techniques and tricks it became second nature. I love kitbashing and making my own, small part of the world.

Granted, this hobby also cost me a sliced open joint on my left pointer finger (it still doesn’t feel right), seared fingertips on the left hand, probable resin-cancer (gets me off this planet sooner) and it’s expensive, but I justify it by giving up video games and excess drinking.

How carcinogenic is 3D printer resin? I’ve probably spent 4 or so hours exposed to it over the past few years. I haven’t gotten much on my hands and when I did I washed them with alcohol. Haven’t really masked up around it (I wasn’t aware of it being much more dangerous than a simple irritant). The room it’s in is fairly well-ventilated and also pretty large and open. I tend to work with the printer in short spells every few months. How great is the risk? Should I be taking more precautions? I know I should just google this stuff but I feel like I tend to get contradictory answers.

My war wounds were not caused by printer resin and I can’t give advice on that matter.

I’m referring to the dust from Forgeworld resin and just filing mini parts (plastic or resin)

And the cause of my sensation-less left hand was an experiment involving acetone and excess plastic. It’s an excellent tool for creating gnarly chaos-flesh, it looks like sinewy writhing organic matter when it dries, the massive amounts you can make from melting sprues down is great for vehicle and terrain conversions for Daemon worlds and Tyranid biomatter.

But be sure to get gloves that can handle it, I forgot to get better gloves and suffered the consequences.
