I mean it's an easy line up for him, throw in some shit about the gays and the aids and then talk about how it's weird that they have a song called sex dwarf
I like Soft Cell, at least most of that album, Non-Stop Erotic Cabaret. Marc Almond is a degenerate faggot but I can look past that. I probably like it just because of when and where I grew up. People do not have free choice as much as they suppose and that's demonstrated by the fact that kids who grew up in the 50s like 50s music, etc.
Anyway, if you asked most people to name the first one hit wonder that came to mind, Tainted Love would be up there in responses so it is surprising he has not done it.

Another song came to mind--Obsession by Animotion. Had that one song and then NOTHING. I did a google search and Astrid Plane is a fat grandma looking woman in her 60s. Life is short and youth is fleeting.

Tainted Love and Obsession would both make good episodes of OHW. Other songs with potential are Cult of Personality by Living Colour, Cantaloop by Us3, Back to Life by Soul II Soul, Brimful of Asha (Norman Cook remix) by Cornershop and Sandstorm by Darude (which yeah, has no lyrics but has been heard by everyone everywhere a million times yet most people couldn't identify it). No lack of topics, only motivation.

I'd love to see this episode, they've got some really good songs besides that one. And they're pretty political so he's got an excuse to talk about racists and how morrissey and brexit is bad (they've been vocally anti both). I won't sperg about them but there's an interesting episode in there if he looks

I think Todd might disqualify this one. Two songs reached #1 on the Hip Hop/R&B charts and the dance charts in the US (where they had 4 more in the Top 10), and Todd has disqualified Men at Work, Rick Astley, and Tiffany for having multiple #1s, though that may be only for the main Billboard hot 100)* and in their native UK, they had 5 songs in the top 10, "Back to Life" being their only British #1, so Todd may disqualify them for being "too popular in Britian".**

Also if you have TWO NUMBER ONE SINGLES, I don't care how forgotten the other one is, you're not a one hit wonder (ie Rick Astley, Tiffany)
(I'll assume that also expands to "more than one") And I have to think it could also apply to America's genre lists as well.

Now, as you know, I cover…

…a lot of foreign acts on this show, most of whom turn out to be more popular in their home country than they were here.

But a lot of my understanding of music comes from critics based in the UK, and…that’s affected who I cover

See, there’s a ton of British acts who are…technically one-hit wonders in this country, but in merry old En-ger-lund, they are not just more successful, they’re bona fide superstars. I simply cannot think of acts like these as one-hit wonders. So, I have always chosen not to cover them on this show.

Sandstorm by Darude
Darude is Finnish, and he has four #1s in his home country (Sandstorm isn't one of them.) So there's a chance for that one probably.

There's an awful lot Todd doesn't get. Why white-knighting doesn't get you laid for example, or why inserting digs against his political enemies into his music nerd rantings just makes him look like a little bitch.
What's really ironic here is that Todd has mentioned this exact point several times in his videos. It feels like lately he's been tone deaf to his own advice. He's always been a bleeding heart leftie (re: JewWario Gamergate), but Twitterbrain and Breadtube folk have probably gotten him a bit too much at this point. That review of "Am I The Only One" disappointed me quite a bit.
Regardless, as clunky as it may be, I do feel like he does try to give the other side some leeway. That Morgan Wallen review was basically him coming to terms with the fact that he doesn't actually really like cancel culture all that much. I still respect him for that. He has a head on his shoulders. (unlike fantano who's gone off the deep end)

Which is funny because Sideways did that in his cats video.
Thanks, man. Honestly, that whole segment was an eye opener. Sideways makes it sound like the musical equivalent of an action scene of when the action scene slows down for a few seconds and then delivers the blow to show off “this is gonna hurt” or “here’s the knockout blow!”

Meanwhile, when Todd was doing his big thing about the “stop on stop”, going as far as to make a video, make that same video on Nebula in which he says he’s gonna keep updating new finds, and I think even going as far as to make a Google doc showing instances he finds and asks for others to show him instances they find, when he says “this is my favorite cliche in music”, but doesn’t explain why, and makes a big video showing off this one thing, I can only see it as Todd assuming that everyone can just read his mind as to why he’s putting so much effort into what’s essentially a shitpost if you don’t know any better.

I don’t think Todd ever had any hopes or delusions of grandeur like Lindsay in the sense that he wanted to be a big name where he’s respected by his peers and the legacy names in his field (and he certainly doesn’t hold any resentment towards doing YouTube videos from what I’ve seen), but I just kind of expect a music critic to explain why he likes X thing in regards to music.

Sorry, this whole thing has just been bugging me. At least the likes of Chris Chan and Randy Stair can come up with some justification for why they’re obsessed with a fictional character, even if it’s totally demented.

Is "all the things she said" a one-hit wonder in America?

This song is involved in so much stupid drama, it would be a great episode.
It's more of a one-hit wonder in the UK, Ireland, Italy and Australia. I could see Todd covering that honestly. I'm hoping he covers the controversy behind it

Song is decent. Let’s just hope that Todd keeps things in check considering that these are Russians he’d be dealing with.

New POP SONG REVIEW: "Jolene" by Beyonce

Fine video. I find it hard to get too interested in the pop song reviews these days because I am so far outside of the pop music sphere at this point. He addresses the country music scene rejecting Beyonce but doesn't lean too much into the racism angle. He's comes off very middle of the road on this one.

I once heard her song Texas Hold ‘Em on the radio. It was pretty mid.

It's mildly impressive he didn't go with Texas Hold 'Em tbh, only because it's popular for shorts and TikTok. Figured it was about time for a PSR but a cover of Jolene that completely missed the point is more interesting than Beyonce's single begging for a commercial to be featured in. Video wasn't bad IMO, could have been much spergier though Todd's wedging of queer culture into every fucking topic is tiresome. For a self-professed straight guy, he's obsessed with it.

And how long has it been since he's had a sponsor that wasn't Nebula? When he first joined Standard, at least there was the occasional SkillShare pity sponsorship but it's been all Nebula, all the time for months if not a year by now. Is shilling a service you have a vested interest in really a sponsorship? Pushing for lifetime memberships for a quick influx of cash, the lack of real sponsors and Todd's continued use of Patreon and YouTube over Nebula-only content does not bode well for the service's sustainability.

Isn't that kind of what led to Gamergate?

Considering who Todd rolls with, I wonder if he has to fill a quota or something to show he's a good (enough) ally.

It's on Wikipedia's list of one hit wonders, and apparently someone also brought it up on Reddit. But yeah, I don't want Todd covering a song by Russians. Especially one where he would talk about how the girls are fake lesbians, and were pretty homophobic in interviews. That would just be insufferable to listen to him going into that shit.

Personally I'd like to see him cover Stacy's Mom, I remember everyone listening to that when I was a kid.

If that episode doesn’t reference The Graduate (with even the thumbnail not doing it), what’s the point? Yes I know I’m calling for an obvious joke/reference to be made.
I don't see why he shouldn't point that out nor make an obvious jab. Speaking of OHW episode ideas, I could see Todd covering "867-5309/Jenny" by Tommy Tutone
