Dumb Shit on Wikipedia

We Wuz Chairs!
On March 20, 2024, the article on the History of the Chair had text added to the Intro stating that Sub-Saharan Africa did not have a chair until it was introduced to them by Europeans.

As expected, once this was discovered their was a massive discussion on if this should be included with the accusations being of racism flying every which way. While the slap fight is still going on, the current position is Sub Sahara Africa did not have chairs with backs but stools. Gone is the Intro section mentioning the lack of proper chairs in that region, instead it was moved to a specific region tab.

I can understand celebrity/public figure death watchers but the edit changes for the Francis Scott Key Bridge disaster is just fucking morbid. Someone, multiple someones more likely, decided the first thing to do when hearing of the accident was to edit the wikipedia page to add the was/were pronouns.

Also the DYK section of the home page is the most useless thing out there. None of this shit deserves to be highlighted, and most of it is literal garbage.

As I understand, the DYK is (or was) intended to highlight Wikipedia's newest articles. So it generally will be a random collection of not particularly distinguished articles. Just looking over them now, some are indeed quite new, although some had been sputtering along for a long time before they got cleaned up and "promoted" to DYK.

The DYK page used to have interesting content, but was probably the first part of Wikipedia's main page to be taken over by political nonsense. Ironically, it also fused with their April Fools main page, like I remember in the late 00s/early 10s they used to have weird/funny content there on that day which as time went on showed up regularly.

And there was also a time where Gibraltar's tourism department or some PR firm they hired put a bunch of articles in the DYK section. This was like mid-2010s and I remember Encyclopedia Dramatica making fun of it in one of the last relative things ED ever did.

I just saw something that triggerd something autistic in me making me want to share it.

I ended up on the "Little Dark Age" wikipedia page and noticed a strange and not really relevant paragraph in the "Resurgence and internet meme" section.
In 2024, Alexis Petridis of The Guardian wrote: "Certainly its adoption doesn't say much for your average neo-Nazi's ability to understand English. Little Dark Age's lyrics are, fairly obviously, an excoriation of Trump-era America and racist police violence."[12]
I found it strange so decided to see when it was added and saw it was 4 days ago (March 27th).

The song has also been used to soundtrack clips of anime, superhero movies, video games, Renaissance art as well as a wide range of social issues, including transgender rights, the Black Lives Matter movement and the Russian invasion of Ukraine.[9]

I'd say it is correct in the sense that the song was written by leftists - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Little_Dark_Age_(song)#Credits

Regarding the whole "lol Nazi's have no reading comprehension it's a leftist song!" I'm pretty damn sure they were using the song because it sounds cool not because of the lyrics or theme of the song which pretty much boils down to "Trump is bad we are in a dark age also cops bad"

This is not dumb bullshit but I don't know where else to share it.
A faggot voter or faggot was a person who qualified to vote in an election with a restricted suffrage only by the exploitation of loopholes in the regulations. Typically, faggot voters satisfied a property qualification by holding the title to a subdivision of a large property with a single beneficial owner. Faggot voting was a common electoral abuse in the United Kingdom until the electoral reforms of the late 19th century.
I love learning. :)
